I have nearly finished building my house just a few more jobs to do about the place. I have a pile of sand round the back which I keep covered but the ground has a lot of sand on it so it ends up on my car. After I wash out my mit there are grains of sand in the sink. The result is that my car gets badly mared.

Can anyone sujest what I should do? I use Megs nxt and the two bucket method. Any other advice is apreciated

I would suggest a pre-soak of some kind.

Either get a foam lance (pressure washer), or a foam gun. Spray on, leave to soak and rinse off... do a couple of times and imagine most of the sand will come off before you start the two bucket method.

Stick the wash mitt on a delicate wash in the machine (with liquid, no softener) to get rid of the sand too...

To get rid of the marring, check out polishedbliss.com for methods, but imagine you would need an intensive polish (menzerna), white side of german pad and some elbow grease (or get a rotary... or pay someone else to do this bit for you).... Then set about sealing the paint with some decent sealant/wax.

 

Another option for the washing stage is the use of a foam gun to pre-soak the car, thus ensuring as much sand as possible is removed from the paint before you lay a mitt on it. To apply a blanket of foam you will need either a Gilmour Foamaster II if you just have a hose to work with, or else an Auto Brite lance if you have a power washer.
