Default Working in direct sunlight - how do you avoid it!?

I figure this is a problem quite a few people have here - how do you avoid polishing/"waxing"(cover all term before anyone gets upset ) your car in direct sunlight?

The problem I have is that my parents drive (the most often used place for me to clean the car!) is roughly east/west, with the house on the western side of it - this means that for much of the day, its getting direct sunlight. The garage is nowhere near large enough to work in, so struggle to see an alternative but work in the sunlight.

Obviously with my new urge to carry out over-the-top car cleaning, this could be a problem; so what (sensible!) options do I have?

How about one of those garden gazebo things, you know the canvas ones. I bought one end of last year and am thinking of trying it out come sunny/warm weather time. Obviously some cars will stick out the ends (move the gazebo along!) and some taller 4x4's may not fit under. You asked for ideas !

I was actually looking at them on Ebay last night - the 3x3 ones are fairly cheap but would leave a third of the car sticking out the end

Still - better than nothing I guess

I had to have a search to see what you meant!

To be honest, I think a 3x6 would be too big to fit out the front of the folks - even as a temporary measure; plus I don't really want to spend £400 on one!

I start very early is my answer. Get the washing and drying done as fast as possible.
I have a 6 x 3 gazebo but use it very little. too windy, too hard to put up, too hard to secure. Wish I had enought money for a unit but then would miss out on the flexibility of the van......

The short answer is you can't avoid it very easily... hence why we decided to opt for a unit instead of a mobile service. When we used to be mobile, as Tim says, starting early for the wash/clay stages works well, and then you just need to work much smaller areas at a time, whether polishing or waxing. It's no fun, but it is doable, even if you end up working 12" square sections at a time.
