Default touch up paint

When using touch up paint, how do you get it smooth like the rest of the paint work? it doesnt seem to want to smooth out and stays liney like the paint brush bristles.

any ideas?

Whenever you touch in stone chips or scratches, you need to flat back the fresh paint with wet n dry paper, and then polish out the resulting sanding haze. This ensures that any brush marks in the paint dissappear, and that the fresh paint sits flush with the original paint. The process goes like this...

1. clean out defects with strong all purpose cleaner/degreaser and dry
2. touch in fresh paint, using fine brush or cocktail stick, and allow to dry
3. repeat step 2 until you have formed a raised dome of dry, fresh paint over the original defect
4. wetsand the dome flush with the sourrounding paint, using either 3000 or 2000 grit finishing paper and a backing pad. You need to soak the paper for at least half an hour first, and use plenty of water when sanding - you must be very careful not to sand beyond the flush stage. When flat, wash the area carefully as normal, and then dry.
5. use a machine polisher, light cut pad and compound to remove the sanding haze, and then use a finishing polish on a polishing pad to refine the finish.
6. seal and protect.

Hope that helps,

Rich
