The guy who'll be doing mine measured the depth of my paint with an ultrasound device and stated that it would be wise to only polish it once, possibly twice on the outside. For this reason alone I decided that buying my own PC was pretty pointless, when he will be doing the full detail including using the PC and all the products for approx 40% of the cost of my own PC alone. A lot of money to use something once, maybe twice, and after that risk fecking up your paint alltogether IMHO.

You can use the PC to apply your waxes and sealents etc too tho and not just the polishes, so use it at least twice/three times a year? Or am i missing something?

would like to see a car that has a P/C osed on it in the metal as it were, the pictures look fantastic, because I was thinking of purchasing one. Perhaps Rich could advise us on whether they are worth purchasing for general waxing/ sealing of the cars bodywork??

wouldnt that depend on how abrasive a polish he used in the first place, is your paintwork in good or bad condition????

Exactly. Whilst it may be true that your paint is thin, and therefore should only be compounded aggressively once or twice, it will be fine to PC it regularly using finishing polishes and glazes (I personally don't like to use the PC for applying waxes or sealants, as it tends to waste product). Here's some food for thought. Even using one of the most aggressive compounds I sell (Power Gloss) and a light cut spot pad on the PC, I've only managed to record a removal of 2-3 microns with my digital paint gauge... out of a total thickness of 100-140 microns on average. Using finishing polishes, I have never recorded any paint removal. The truth is that the PC is a burnishing machine rather than a compounding machine. It is capable of a small amount of paint removal (hence why it can be used for correction), but in general, with normal use it simply burnishes paint rather than cutting into it. So, in my opinion, a PC is not a waste of time for anyone, even if they have soft, thin paint - you just have to act accordingly and select mild finishing products and pads.

That makes sense, I suppose the first time you rejuvinate (sp?) a car it may require quite aggressive cutting back, but thereafter if treated with respect further defects should be minimized requiring less remedial action. The paint on my Scoob was below 100 microns in some places (leading edge of bonnet, roof etc) BTW.

Do you mind me asking how much he is charging and what it covers?

Mine could do with a little TLC

100 microns isn't too bad - the Civic I posted up last week only had 67 on the leading edge of the bonnet!

I would look at the Menzerna or Optimum line up of polishes - both work really well on Scooby paint. What's the extent of your paint defects?

Oh, missed that, in that case the Poorboy's SSR range is worth a look, as Ford paint is softer and can be worked well with it. I would start with SSR2.5 using a white polishing pad, and see how you go. If some of the defects persist, I would then drop down to a light cut pad, again with the SSR2.5. If you have any really bad scratches you may need SSR3 to get them out fully, although a light cut spot pad with SSR2.5 would also suffice for such tasks. Once the majority of the defects are out I would then do a final polishing step with SSR1 using a white polishing pad - this will enhance the gloss no end and leave a perfect finish for the last step. The benefits of the Poorboy's range are good value, ease of use for beginners (they are much easier to learn with than the Menzerna polishes) and good cutting power on Ford paint.

Poorboy's SSR's here...

http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acata...135polish.html

As for last step step products, what type of finish are you looking for? Wet and glossy, shiny and reflective, something in between?

What kit did you order? The SFX kit? If so you'll be okay, but may need an extra white polishing pad. How many white pads in the kit?

As for last step, a thin coat of EX-P sealant topped with Natty's Blue paste wax would look great on that colour paint (the EX-P could be skipped if you want to keep it more simple).

Aye, looks good, you will need another white pad (one for the SSR2.5, one for the SSR1). The yellow pad can be used with SSR2.5 if the white pad doesn't get everything out.

Hi Ralph,
I wouldn't worry, USPS isn't the best at updates and you usually won't see anything until they are clearing it through customs.
