April Show N Shine Winners!
Congratulations to Ruth McCauley of Lisburn for winning our April show n shine. Ruth has done a superb job restoring the paintwork on her boyfriends new Coralla T-Sport, purchased recently with only 12k miles on the clock. Although relatively new, the pictures below clearly show that this car suffered too many automatic car washes in the hands of the previous owner, no doubt made worse by the fact that Toyota’s have very soft paint that is easily marked. The first step in the process was a thorough wash, followed by a session with a clay bar. Ruth then moved the car into the sunlight to assess the severity of the paint defects, and was quite shocked by what you can see below – heavy swirls and serious marring. The next step in the process was to tape off the trims and then set to work with her Porter Cable 7424 dual action polisher, using Poorboy’s Super Swirl Removers. Ruth started out with SSR2.5, but found that a lot of swirls remained after two passes, so then switched to SSR3 to tackle the problem areas. Once the swirls were finally out, Ruth then followed up with SSR2 to enhance the gloss before getting her halogen lighting rig out for a final inspection. After a well deserved nights sleep, Ruth put on a coat of Poorboy’s EX-P sealant, before finishing up with a coat of Poorboy’s Natty’s Blue paste wax. As a finishing touch, the wheels were protected with a coat of Meguiars Tech Wax and the tyres dressed with Meguiars Endurance Gel. The results speak for themselves; a wet, glossy look with great reflectivity and defect free paint. Well done!
Congratulations also to David McLean of Dundee for coming a very close second. David has done an great job bringing his dad’s ten year old Astra back to life. This car has only ever been washed with a sponge or in automatic car washes, and also spends most of its life on farm tracks, so the paint was in bad shape. David spent a long day tackling the various defects with products from the Menzerna range – Intensive Polish, Final Polish II, Finishing Touch Glaze and Full Molecular Jacket. So bad was the condition of the paint that not all of the defects could be removed on the day, but nevertheless the quality of the work is first class and the final results speak for themselves. Simply brilliant!
