Default Wheel cleaning advice

Ok so the wheels are new, so I want to keep them looking good. The Fifth Gear chap washing supercars slated acid based wheel cleaners - so what do you guys use?

I also got some dark patches in the wheel centre around the nuts. Could it be new car wax?

Cheers

For maximum wheel friendly protection, apply a basecoat of Klasse All In One, followed by 2-3 coats of Poorboy's Wheel Sealant. The Klasse lays down a tough layer of acrylic sealant that lasts for 4-6 months, while the Poorboy's helps to preventg brake dust from sticking in the first place (needs topping up every 4-6 weeks). If you use these products, you only need to use normal shampoo to wash the wheels and keep them mint. If you don't wash regularly and want a wheel cleaner, something like Menzerna Gel 7.5 is strong enough to clean well, but very wheel friendly. Avoid products like Wonder Wheels et al like the plague. The dark marks sound odd, but if they are factory protection the Klasse will more than likely shift them - it has very potent cleaning abilities.

Great!

So what do you recommend to apply/work in/ buff the different products?

As there are pads, towels and brushes?

Thanks

Poorboy's Work Towels - a damp one for applying the Klasse, a dry one for buffing it off. The Wheel Sealant goes on with a Meguiars foam pad, and is easily buffed with a dry work towel too. I don't like brushes much, I prefer to just use a mitt and get my fingers into all the spokes - however, the Meguiars Wheel Brush is quiet good for multispokes.

I also had dark patches around the wheel center & nuts on a couple of the wheels on my new WRX. It was a little sticky and strangly despite cleaning it off it kept returning. I eventually decided it was greese and used a little white spirit. It hasn't returned since.

The best wheel cleaner i have ever used is the Sonus stuff from autopia, ph balanced, totally safe for the wheels but it really shifted the brake dust. Very Impressed.

Alex is a nice guy and gives good service, but I'm not sure he'd appreciate being called a daddy! Would also recommend him for stuff you want that I don't sell!

Hi Polished Bliss...

In another thread you mentioned Meguiars Wheel Brightener...
http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthrea...light=meguiars

What do you think of it really?
Is it suitable for 2 piece SPLIT rims??

I will endavour to keep them clean, and use the Poorboys Wheel Seelant.

...the Meguiars Wheel Brightener is not to be used on polished aluminium (or anodized) alloys.

Because it contains ammonium bifluoride (ABF):

What are your thoughts please???

most brighteners i have used have been pretty harsh stuff that needs correctly waterd down

not used the megs stuff, but if you spill a little on some concrete and it turns green and fizzles, then its what i expect it to be

i have used a lot of different products over the years, and i always go back to the stuff that the bloke on 5th gear slates

the rest, just dont seam to shift the baked on yellow/brown crap as well, but this stuff can damage rims if you are not clued up

i use 2 different types of stuff here at my premises

the 1st one is used on the carwash and is nice and light, perfect for repated use, costs me £16.50 plus vat for 25 litres and is waterd down 5:1
i have used this every few days on my scoobys wheels for a year and a half with no ill effects, this si fully safe for the drainage systems, and contains no nasty stuff, this gets used on approx 30k cars a year at my site, never ever had a problem with it

the second is used on valets that come in where the wheels are baked, costs me £9 plus vat for 5 litres and is waterd down 50/50 in our case, this stuff is leathal, and care must be taken in use, always check wheels before use, i have been useing this stuff for 10 years in various forms so i kinda know what needs to be avoided, etc etc, it does actualy say on the packaging that it can be used to remove concrete from plant machinery if required (just like the nice manon top gear said )

care must be taken when spraying, hurts your lungs, stings eyes and burns cuts on fingers, basicaly its a concentrated version of "most" wheel cleaner solutions on the market in trade packing.

i have not used any citrus based cleaners yet.....

Answered on the other thread!

Once again, the golden rule is if you look after your wheels properly from new (wash them weekly, seal them every 2-3 months) then you should never need to use anything to clean them other than normal suds and a wash mitt.
