I was thinking that myself
I seen a tv programme somewhere along the line for saving water.... have a talk with the local council see if there are any grants available for water tanks from what I remember you can set one up save your rain water and filter it to use for flushing the toilet with you could also put a pump on that and fire it down a hose maybe ?? if I lived down there that's the direction I would be looking at.

Hope that helps you

Simon

so basically your recommending some sort of "water carrying container" device as opposed to pumping a free-flowing stream of water through plastic/rubber compound tubing..?

I'll say it again, GENIOUS.

They say "hosepipe" ban not a "bucket" ban. From what I saw on the news it is to try and build up stocks of water. Having lived in Cyprus for 3 years where 'without notice' they can turn off your water, not pleasent. so as nasty as not being able to use the hosepipe to wash your pride and joy. A bit now might save a lot in the long run.

15 months of below average rainfall apparently.

To me that's an admission that they haven't been planning well enough, but what do I know.

Simple, use the three bucket method and a quick detailing spray (one bucket of suds, two rinse). Working small areas at a time, dunk mitt in first rinse bucket, hold over area and squeeze gently (repeat on heavily soiled areas). Then spray on quick detailer. Dunk mitt into suds bucket, wash area gently, then dunk mitt in second rinse bucket and flex to loosen and drop grit. Repeat over whole car. Then use watering can to rinse off, spray surfaces with quick detailer again and dry off. The use of the quick detailer gives more lubrication to the process, helping to prevent damage if cleaning isn't as good as normal.

doesn 't help water mains pissing water out, down the road either. in the past six months i've lost count of how often i see water bubbling out of the ground, around the wycombe area.

Really bad timing for a hosepipe ban in car cleaning terms:
wet muddy roads one day, freezing sunny day the next - really cakes the mud up the side of the car.

Maybe time for flaps !! Wonder whether I can claim the money back from Thames Water

Probably only a matter of time before the other water Co's follow suit?
I don't reckon you'll see a lift of the ban for the rest of this year. I was a bit dismayed until I realised that I'm supplied by Essex and Suffolk Water!

360 quid a year water bill and they can't collect up enough water for me to be able wash my pride and joy down with the hose... we need more supply. Like most things though - attitude seems to be to cut back rather than improve the infrastructure. just my two pence worth.

This sounds a much more environmentally sound idea. I try not to use more than five buckets of liquid all told inc. one with warm water/shampoo. Start with roof and windows, rinse off immediately, then move on to bonnet, boot and finally each side. I only use the hose to blast under the wheel arches once a year after winter.

A very relevant point is, that with all the building going on in this part of the country, how are they going to supply all those new properties when they can't supply the existing customers without panic measures?
