Signatures and Avatars

There was a general concensus a while back not to have them I think
And TBH huge signatures full of flashing gifs and jpegs of some naff chavved up car with a listing of the postee's strap on inventory does make the thread a complete pain in the **** to read.
I Don't mind small avatars to the left of the screen though
Granted, sigs could be switched off by the user (which would be the 1st thing I would do)....But considering how slow SN was yesturday when it peaked at over 600 online users, I doubt it would help with the bandwidth/server overload problems either
IMO of course

agree with the flashing gif etc. could it be made a text only sig limited to 80 characters say. think avatars would be nice. i have quite a nice scooby one for myself on another bbs. 600 odd online users is not that many. any sign of yet another server upgrade to cope with the rising demand. costs money i know and mods have a thankless task(which i why i don't want to be one), but surely if things slow to a crawl ppls will just go elsewhere.
