ScoobyNet does NOT use pop-ups.

If you are 100% definitely sure that these appear while you are on scoobynet, and not on other sites, I have absolutely no idea how they get there. Would be very interested though.

All the best

It's not Scoobynet causing the pop-ups mate, you've downloaded some ad-software. Have you intalled Kazaa? It installs all kinds of ****. Download Ad-Aware, it finds and deletes all the Ad cr@p from your computer.

If he's getting them on SN and not elsewhere, could it be that a piece of spyware he's picked up is keying off the Google ads?

Can't be linked to that gm. A few weeks ago, I got these pop ups and only on SN..... but I don't have Google ads visible, so have never clicked on them.

IMO, I personally think, that clicking on links given by users in threads, is somehow the cause. I have a fairly new laptop and have mainly used it for SN only and MSN.

As a Mod, I have to sometimes check links given by users, and my theory is, that one or even more than one of these links I have clicked on, was the cause of the pop ups happening.

Interesting point Redkop ! By the By .. when I clicked on reply to this and , guess what , yup a pop-up for Dell computers !! .. Anyway , it seems when I click on some threads ,doesnt matter which section , I get these ads . I DON'T have Kazaa installed ( tho' I did have a few months ago , uninstalled it , and had to go back to a save point on XP cause my Explorer was mashed ..Its still listed there but its not if u get my drift ) .. Have done the Adware thing but am gonna do it again .. Did find a lot of Ad viruses with McAfee and removed them 2 weeks ago .. Im bug free ..
If u find out anything let me know .. Thanks other peeps for ur input and help ..

Steve, I downloaded the evaluation version of Spy Sweeper as well as Ad-aware and ran that.

Also, I downloaded the Google Toolbar and blocked pop-ups and since then they have not appeared again.

I am at a total loss, to know, why the pop-ups only occurred when I used ScoobyNet though. Only one other remote correlation, I can make, is that I have SN as my homepage and whatever causes the pop-ups might attach itself to your homepage only, as they did not appear when I visited PassionFord

Very bizarre.

This is interesting.... found it on the Webroot site where Spy Sweeper is, it seems that they are java based.

Pop-ups triggered by moving your mouse

More and more web sites use javascript for creating useful drop-down menus and other navigation. The same technique is sometimes used to trigger pop-up ads, and moving your mouse over a certain area of a web page screen will launch a pop-up window.

Webroot Pop Up Washer prevents pop-up windows from disrupting your Internet experience and tracking your surfing habits.

The most common pop-ups are those that open automatically when you land on a web page. This page has already tried to open two pop-up windows (based on different javascript events). Good pop up blocking software will block both of them.
Another common pop-up trick is to open a new window when you leave a web site. This page will also attempt to open one more pop-up window when you exit (move to another page, close your browser, etc.). Good pop-up blocking software will block this one as well.

Some of the stuff you've described sounds like the Messenger service in XP. If it isn't this, then I can also recommend Spyware Blaster - it's free and will stop a lot stuff being installed on your PC.
