Default bonnet soundproofing

The glass fiber one on mine went really manky so I binned it.
Anyone know where I can get something to replace it. Ideally not glass fiber again

Been told by others to not bother replacing, makes next to no difference.

I heard this too... apparently it drops onto the engine if it catches fire... But to be honest it only covers a small part of the engine and would only sit on top of all the pipe work and not actually envelop the areas that are on fire. There would be so much free space full of air I can't see laying a small bit of fibre glass mat on top of the inlet manifold doing anything...

I think it is made of that material to stop it from catching fire but not to stop fires. Just guess work of course.... mine is in a landfill somewhere.

Found these online. No prices or anything yet though. Maybe someone could get in touch and see if there's interest in a group buy.

They look smart. But why do we want to keep heat in our engine bay? Wouldn't it be better seeping up through the bonnet as another way out? Would covering the top surface of the bay in insulation and heat reflective material not make the bay and therefore under bonnet temps hotter?

Good point, but how much heat do you actually lose through the bonnet? I just hate the look of the standard blanket, and the fact that you can't clean it.

the blankets there to soundproof a little. it cuts out little squeakes and rattlles and clicks and valves. keeping the heat in is a side effect.
when the cars moving though the air going through the engine bay will remove more heat in 5 seconds than an uninsulated bonnet will in a whole journey

This!

It's not soundproofing, it's fire blanket and it's a waste of time! Take it off and you will hear NO difference in sound levelas whatsoever as you are in the car not lying on the bonnet
