Everyone likes a play every now and again but that's nuts.

I don't condone it for a second, but the punishment seems harsh compared to 'proper' criminals.

Just to add.... I though it was only undesirable Subaru drivers who race/speed?

The punishment is harsh but a crash at that speed on that road would probably kill them and any other cars close enough to be involved.

144mph at dinner time on a busy road on a Saturday.

Deserved everything they got.

Save it for 'da track'.

Both men were given four-month jail terms suspended for 18 months, and banned from the roads for three years after pleading guilty to dangerous driving at Northallerton Magistrates’ Court.

They were also each ordered to carry out 300 hours of unpaid work and fined £85 and ordered to pay a £60 victim surcharge.
FOUR separate punishments, and done for DD so massive insurance hike on the way.

And who ACTUALLY did they hurt?????

Now I'm NOT condoning it, but come ON....assault someone and put him in hospital, you'd get ONE punishment. Drivers get FAR more when no-one is even hurt.

It's all a bit late if they'd have lost control and piled into a car full of kids though isn't it? The potential for loss of life when driving that close at that speed is massive. It's stupid and dangerous and they deserved everything they got.

IMO of course:

They deserved to be punished: yes.

They deserve FOUR separate punishments with a savage fifth lying in wait? I think not.

Now HAD they crashed, then yes.

Shall we start punishing people for what they MIGHT do? I reckon not.

Definitely agree with you on that Jeff. I'm being Devil's Advocate here but those cars apart from bring in close proximity were being driven quite well. Furthermore both cars were capable of carrying that speed and engineered to do so. The three year ban is a bit off a p!sstake. It's the usual case of young lads with nice cars so throw the book at them.

You can tell they were even driven 'quite well' from the 3 second clip?

Do you class racing at 145 mph not dangerous?

Nothing happened, so at that time is wasnt dangerous.

I dont think anyone will say its acceptable to drive like that, what there saying is they get a punishment like that for speeding, yet the police dont even turn up to things like when parts got ripped off my car and stolen.

I wonder if they had "history" and that contributed to their punishment.

It does sound harsh, particularly the prison time as that's a career ender for many people - but if they would have wiped out a minibus full of kids or whatever, people would be demanding harsher punishments for such traffic offenses at least for a few weeks until everyone forgets about it- then it's just nice lads having a "bit too much fun".

It's "safe" when the other road users are expecting it. Closing speeds can be so deceptive, especially when you're not expecting somebody at DOUBLE the speedlimit.

No doubt that those cars can probably stop and steer better at those speeds than most cars can at 80 or 90 - but you can't go tearing around on a busy (apparently) dual carriageway and call it safe.

I believe there's a stated case that speed alone can not be classed as dangerous driving! Now the driving right up the rear end of another car at that speed is a different matter!!

Their probably too busy out catching people who drive like utter bellends. And your post is by far the most retarded I've seen from anyone on here or any other forum I've been on.

Additional article just posted - judge said reason for more severe punishment was that the road was busy, is normally used by slow moving agricultural vehicles and that both cars were carrying passengers (3 people in the RS and 2 in the Evo) so any accident would impact 5 people a minimum.

I drive that road all the time. There have been a number of fatal and serious accidents on there in the last few years.

If that had been 2AM I would have thought it a bit harsh, but a Saturday lunchtime on a busy road...

I think the Evo would have won.
