Grip was poor on any road not perfectly flat,smooth and dry and v tec not for me

 

My first car was a 998cc Austin metro. It had no guts at all, and the hydraulic suspension kept going down. But it was my first car and I had a load of fun in it. The worst one I ever owned was a 2.0 focus ghia. As soon as it approached 100k it fell apart like a clown car! Mainly motorway miles and a full history too.

Automatic choke never worked properly, had one under warranty and two more.
Two starters.
Two alternators,
An exhaust approximately every year
The electronic ignition was too powerful, if you opened the bonnet after dark, there were blue sparks everywhere!
Finally cured that by taking it all off the car, spraying it solid with Waxoyl, then refitting and spraying where I'd touched.

Then the oil light started flickering. Ford dealer said no problems...it seized up the next day, cost me a new engine!!

I've never had another Ford, and until then, I'd had nowt else but Fords. And that was back in the day when if you bought the quickest Ford in it's class, you had the quickest CAR on the road in it's class! Lotus Cortina, twin Cam Escort, RS1800 etc etc.

 

Pug 206 1.4. My first car and it was a right shed. It was 7 year old with 75k on the clock. Had it 2 years, had 2 gearboxes, several oil leaks and the pedals were far too close for my size 11s. Never ever will I buy another pug !

 

MK2 Astra Estate 1.7 non-turbo diesel. Although at the time, it was my first car so with some racing matts and pedals, it was almost a race car!

I had afew mk3s poxy carbs....but my mk1 was wicked

 

Citroen 2CV would have to be technically the worst car I have ever driven in that it had no power, no grip, no nothing really, but I never expected it to LOL!

Now the most disappointing car I've ever driven would have to be a Mk3 Golf GTI. Having owned 2 Mk 1s and driven a few Mk 2s I had high hopes for the Mk3 and when my mate got one as a company car he handed me the keys... talk about killing a car stone dead.... wtf were VW on with that one? Heavy, slow, ponderous.. everything the Mk2 wasn't.... I was so disappointed! The VR6 restored some of the sparkle, but the GTI was never quite the car it started as after that in any incarnation (and as good as the modern ones are).

 

Moral of the storey, wait until the new model is at least 6 months old before buying, they've usually ironed out most of the problems!

They ran the vv carb iirc, horrible things! Most people swapped them for the webber variant, made a huge difference!

Oil light flickering and engine failure on a (I assume it was CVH) is down to crappy oil and/or a blocked strainer which kills the oils pump and thus kills the engine - usually!!

 

The worst i have driven is a Classic mini, at 6 foot 2 i felt like a clown and the bugger would not go into reverse, i ended up getting out and pushing it backwards.

 

Sorry to say it but worse car i owned is bugeye STI Prodrive PPP, in space of couple of months, rad went, 2 water pipes went, gearbox went. Car only had 60k on the clock with full dealer history. Plus it was slower than i thought it was going to be, however i loved the looks of the car, such pretty car

Worse car i have driven is Corsa 1.0L. Shocking car

Went through 2 or 3 start motors in two years
Overheating problems
Underheating problems
Randomn clunking would appear and go
Bodywork would literally sink (my friends done the same)
Dodgy Immobiliser
Handles like poopoo

Glad it was sold... last Rover i ever had...

 

Nissan Sunny 1.3slx saloon. I only paid £200 for it though so didn't expect a lot

sum old mankey blue ford escort my stepdad had for a few years, no powersteering and more holes in the body than a hookers tights. horrible souless car that i hope was scrapped many many years ago.

1985 Porsche 924, cost me 3 grand (lots of years ago) spent 600 all on breakdown repairs just to keep it running in six weeks, sold it for 3.7 grand.
Six weeks of torture, but at least I made a profit.
It was actually quite nice when I sold it, I had just lost all faith in it.

 

MK4 Escort RS Turbo, not one week went past without something failing. It was 174bhp in the end and even my mates 1.6 Escort Estate could keep up with it.

without any doubt, a seat Ibiza sxi (system Porsche) utter crap, every time I shut the door something fell off inside, regular problems with leccy windows, once down they wouldn't come back up (spent more time chocking the window glass up with bits of wood) position of steering wheel, like a bus steering wheel......was horrible.

 

02 reg renault laguna 1.8 bought as a stop gap car. Awful drive, pedals close together, slow as f***, and just generally a rubbish car.

 

Quite a few but one that sticks in my mind is a fiat morea estate (or what ever they're called) just a piece of complete utter crap, absolutely hateful thing, only good thing about it was I only had it a week while (curtesy car) had some paint work done.

Oh and a ford sierra 1.6 didn't mind though as it was a hire car I got for my 21st birthday, killed 2nd gear then it blew the engine on the way to doncaster, I have no idea why, nothing to do with the way it was being driven.

 

Does a LDV pilot count..company bought it brand new..it was shyte from day one. Peugeot XUD engine with NO turbo, so massively underpowered, although a good thing as it didn't handle or stop either. Fell to bits.

Worst proper car I have ever driven would be a 1990's Aston Martin Virage Vantage Volante (to properly name it ). Huge car, looked stunning, however was appaulingly built (shoddy panel gaps, aluminium body panels corroding into holes), and it drove terrible. The steering violently fighting my efforts on uneven roads, brakes felt like they were off a 2CV, performance was lethargic - American 4 speed autobox geared for 200+mph, which basically meant if it wasn't in first gear it bogged down all the time and the box changed into second gear pretty soon and refused to kickdown until after a 4 second wait. Interior and electrics was a mish mash of parts bin raiding - Jaguar heater controls, Ford Granda dashboard, VW Scirocco rear lights, VW Corrado front lights.

Basically it was a massively expensive kit car. That was pre-built with some blokes name stamped on the engine (which was run by two Weber IAW ECUs off a Ford Cossie - they can't run V8 engines as they are designed for a four cylinder engine, so it needed two to run it (one per bank)! What a bodge or British ingenuity at it best?...However why not just use a Zytec ECU, like Rolls and Jags did )

Why is the Aston the worst? because this glorified kit car retailed new at £160,000!

Worst personal car I owned had to be the Rover 216GSi automatic. I lived with it for two months before getting rid of it.

 

Not me but a mate had an old metro back in the mid 90's which was an utter pile of crap, he had to get a bank loan to buy it lol. Definitely the worst car any of our social circle owned.

 

An old Mini, hardly any rear sub-frame left as it had rotted away, and a knackered engine. It also jumped out of first gear unless you held it in by hand. Hill starts were tricky as the gear stick could kick back so hard it would give your hand a hell of a jolt. It ended its days stationary on a steep hill in Devon, with a huge queue of traffic stuck behind it with lots of horns going. We bottled it, got out and ran off and never saw it again.
