Thinking of buying a Impreza STI.
Hi all just joined the forum there, i am no stranger to subaru cars i daily drive a forester for work and i have made a deceision to buy a subaru wrx sti, i no nothing about these cars, i no there are good models of engines and bad ones. My budget is between 7 and 8k. My favourite shape is the hawkeye, i would have a feeling going for a 2.5 l impreza wrx sti, due to the bigger engine.
Any help i would be appreciated.

welcome to the site..! i'v recently joined too and like yourself i'm still to make my purchase so get in line....
hahahaafter speaking to a couple of guys on here, due to the budget we both have that it would be a good idea to get a 2005 model. but like yourself i do like the hakeye model better. i'v read a few posts on this site regarding the hawkeye and i leave it up to yourself to make the decision. good luck with your purchase.
Yeah if you want a hawk get a good one and I'd recommend getting one with a forged engine.
Some of these cars are prone to head gasket failures and piston rings breaking.
For that budget I'd be looking at a widetrack Blobeye STi 2005MY. For me the better car in stock form.

the new galaxy hit it on the head.as of many threads on here the 2.5 has the worry factor of blowing its head .granted the rb has the mods but still has the 2.5 lurking in there .again for your budget the blob is the way forward

You won't find a forged hawk or a JDM hawk for £7-8k. Even if it's been to the moon and back.
You'd need to drive them back to back to see which one you'd prefer. I personally don't think the twinscroll is all that but that's me.
So if you want one of these two "better" options you'll have to pay for it unless you accept the risks involved running a stock 2.5.
Thought you'd sold, obviously not.
yeah with the following posts on the thread it looks like the only way forward with a hawkeye is to get an engine forged, im not sure with what forging involves i take it involves installing rebuilding the topend with forged internals, how much cost would be involved in forging an engine? On the other hand the price of forging an engine could buy an rb 320, i cant seem to find any jdm subarus or widetrack models, they must be very rare. It looks like i may need to save up for another year lol, well at least my insurance will come down a bit further.

or if you're looking at RB320 money, then this would make me, and many others i'd imagine quite jealous
