Default who's the best impreza engine mapper?

Hi,im just having 5 speed gearbox rebuilt with cryogenically frozen gearset (which apparrently makes it 25% stronger). I recently stripped 2nd gear running between 320-350bhp in my 04wrx. Anyways now I have stronger box I want more horseys about 400 sounds nice. So the question is 'Who/where do I go for the remap'? I have a couple of people/places in mind but want to see what others think? My mods are 550 pink injectors, induction kit, front mount intercooler,vf35 turbo, full exhaust system including uppipe. Engine rebuilt to a nice spec, engine builder has guaranteed engine for atleast 500bhp

You will need a bigger turbo for a start, you won't get much more than 350 from a vf35

Have you thought about brakes, clutch, suspension, tyres?

It's fine having big power but you need to get it on the road. You'll need to make the car go in the right direction, stop and handle correctly.

The big BHP US cars are fine in a straight line but come to a corner and things get a bit lairy.

Just put it on Swapz or whatever it's called... it will gain 100bhp just by doing that!

For an extra 500bhp just stick a WRX PPP map on, it's self learning

I wouldn't bother doing the turbo mate, the gearbox will still be very risky.

what spec is the engine? What other mods has been done? when you start lookign at changing the turbo your into a big long list of supporting mods.

The "best mapper" question is entirely subjective and premature in any event.
Even the "very best" mapper won't reach 400 bhp from a VF35, the injectors may turn out to be a little short as well. The trick is to have all the right bits fitted to match your brief.
A little word about mapping while we're on the subject. Just because someone can squeeze extra power out of any given situation doesn't make them a good mapper. If they just sit in the car and keep adding boost, ignition whatever until it goes really fast, it doesn't follow that the car is going to last five minutes. A good mapper gets the best out of whatever he's faced with, specification wise, in a way that's sustainable.
In most cases, mappers will do a decent enough job, considering they would usually want to see something else fitted on the car they've just turned up to. I say most, as one or two new ones out there lately really shouldn't..

Nail, Head. Hit!

I would only add to this that you should also find someone who knows what "aftercare" entails!

Find someone who can do all of the above who isn't a million miles away and go with them. I personally use Bob Rawle and went to him initially owning to a combination of reputation and location. I went back each time I got new mods because each time his knowledge and customer service meant I left happy and if I subsequently had any issues, he would always be prepared to offer advice/have a look at the car.

These 'best mapper' threads are a bit pointless really. You're only ever going to suggest the guy you use, if he isn't in reality all that great you won't know because you know no different.
There's a few names mentioned so far that I've heard horror stories about, one in particular mapped a good friends car who had major issue immediately afterwards. However, said mappers obviously have there fans otherwise they wouldn't be in business. And no, I won't be naming them on here or via pm as I have never had dealings with them.
There are many 'good' mappers out there getting good results and im sure you could use any of the above and be happy with the results. I always use Paul from ZEN, his accomplishmemts with his own cars and others are/were enough to make me feel confident in his abilities.

Really? It seems to have so much more blow than Im using. The wastegate bleeds loads when on boost, infact it struggles to bleed it all sometimes and I end up getting 1.4bar of boost instead of the 1.2bar its mapped to (also thinking of external wastegate)

If gearbox doesnt hold out I'll look into upgrading it again, maybe a 6speed but I like the ratios in the uk 5speeds.I've heard they can handle 350bhp standard and mines been strengthened so should be ok. Engine has been totally stripped and rebuilt with uprated forged internals etc. Mods are vf35,front mount,550 injectors, induction kit and full exhaust including uppipe
