Hey all,
During my latest venture, I was removing the Blobeye lights and grill where I could see the cold air intake filter was absolutely filthy, and I mean really badly covered in shoite!
So do I remove the filter and either clean or replace it, Or shorten the plumbing and get it installed back in the engine bay with some cold air ducting feed?
I've usually gone for an engine bay installation, and the only other time I've had a inner wing one was on my bugeye a few years ago, but I shortened this pipe work when I went FMIC as it was a right pita to get everything in the wing. However this isn't an issue with this FMIC pipe work.
Im just after opinions or experiences of inner wing filters really.
Thanks
Rob

I've never been a fan of inner wing as they do get proper dirty especially if your car is driven through out the year winter months included(rain puddles etc...)plus the size you can fit is not really that big I had a indepth chat with Sir Harvey a few years ago and he said to me he has run them there before but found that the size of the filter X the power your looking to run and keeping the filter clean is the reason he did not do them there anymore after numerous testing. It can be cleaned though as frayz has done it with his filter and the difference with his filter after it was cleaned,is that it looked brand new afterwards.SJ.
Hi Rob
As above Adrian said,Harvey(RIP) tested and posted several threads on this subject.
We are never run any kind CAIK or Cold air feed on our wagon and not sure if we wil gain something with the CAIK or Cold Air Feed
Cleaning filter as Adrian said, you can have look on the Frayz thread where he cleaned K&N filter with K&N cleaning kit

Clean it and put a cover on it.
You just have to clean it monthly.
its no biggy. Once a month i take it off and blow it through with an air line and also empty my oil catch can.
Its just routine maintenance on a modified car.

Cheers chaps.
I'll have a look at it when home later, if I can access it easy from both the fog and headlight removal I'll leave it and set up a routine for cleaning it. If it's not all that accessible this wY and I need to remove the inner arch liner, I'll reduce the pipe work.
I'll report back

TT mate I know some people use them but maybe I should be more specific about my conversation with Sir Harvey it was more performance orientated as this thread would agree some of Harvey's findings.SJ.

i expressed some concern as my car is an everyday motor and i didnt want the filter getting filthy.
he said they are fine if installed correctly.
and it has been,i would still prefer an engine bay one though.
Hi Rob , when Harvey, Darren & I built this Hawk we started with the inner wing from the HDI Hybrid , but then quickly changed to a bay filter with cold feed .
Changing several types & styles

My blob STI came with a CAI in the wing, it still had the original ( I presume) mesh filter and it was absolutely rotten and fell to bits when I removed it, however my arch liner was damaged which I'm assuming was the cause.
I changed my filter to a ramair foam filter and repaired the liner and last time I checked it as still as new although the car does get very little use lol.

Yes you are right, just want to make sure the filter can flow enough for over 400bhp.
