Buy a broken CDB or Working SCDB

I'm looking at my options for a big power build and wondered what peoples opinions are on the above options.
I've seen a few CDB being sold off due to piston ring failures, as I'm going down the 2.1 stroker route I'm assuming this wouldn't cause any issues because of the re-bore?
Other option I have been looking at is buying a used working STI SCDB and then going down the 2.1 stroker route.
I'm basically looking to achieve 500/500.
Should I go down the broken CDB route or the SCDB option?
Cheers all

When making a 2.0 cdb into a 2.1. There is no re bore, it is done by stroking the engine with a 2.5 crank, thus making a 2.1 from a 2.0. Or 2.35 from a 2.2. Both using a 2.5 crank
You are always better getting a un-damaged engine if possible,
Good look

From my limited experience, I'd say go for what you can get at the best price (incl machining costs).
Both blocks will do 500, but consider that a SCDB will only need a hone/bore to fit pistons, where-as a CDB will need the bore and also the centre thrust bearing converted to rear thrust bearing, which adds (I believe) in the region of 300.
However, the CDB is probably ultimately a stronger block, but having said that, i haven't read about any SCDB's splitting. If you intend on keeping to 500hp, then it probably doesn't matter, but if you think you might suffer some feature creep, you might want to go for a CDB.
In the end, the block + extra machining of a CDB is only a fraction of the total build cost anyway, but every little helps when it comes to paying for projects, right?

we have had early v1/2 std engines running near 450 but doesn't mean i would recomend one long term.........
personally for 400-500 i wouldn't use an open deck and would suggest an SCDB as a minimum (based on 2.0/2.1)

Been thinking of a rotated setup, as far as the actual turbo goes I am a fan of the Lateral range...I have had a good chat with Alan@engine tuner which cleared up a lot of questions I had, and to be honest there's a good chance I'll go with him for the build. Just hadn't decided weather to start with a CDB or SCDB, especially when you see people breaking CDB's on here..
Hi there
Depends on yours final target and from this I would go
We have run 2.1L at 490/480 without the single issue, this has been on 20% meth,we run our 2.1L like with NOS and 20% meth,we are never been on RR to confirm the BHP,but I would say has been more than 500bhp,we are never have any single issue with the engine on meth or on NOS.Car has been used like on the track or drag strip plus we are used our wagon daily too

The car will become a weekend track focused toy so not to worried about using it for daily, we run a hatch STI also as a daily so will still have that to get about.
I know 450/450 is relatively easier to achieve but I've always had a final (well for now) power figure in mind of 500/500 and would like to see it through. Just personal choice I guess.
