As for the value of a 95 WRX, I would guess in the £8-10k from a dealer.

One of the first things to look out for is the age of the car. This is because the Japanese year that is shown on the translation of the Registration document appears 2 years later than it actually is (my 93 WRX could be passed off as a 95).

Also check the drivers seat belt for a large tag with various bits of info on it. Can't remember what's on it, but it is often removed to disguise the cars history.

Check the chassis number of the car against the list held on the SIDC web site, to ensure it is what the dealer says it is.

Ask the dealer if it has been derestricted (from 112mph max). Although academic in the UK, you never know when you might want to take it on a track or to the Autobahn.

Ask the dealer what mods, if any, have been made to the car. Could have a big bearing on insurance.

Another thing to check is the presence of a Turbo Timer. Useful gadget IMHO.

Cat 1 alarm also is a must. If it doesn't have one, you need to budget for it or have problems with insurance quotes.

A warranty would also be a good idea even if it is a bit pricey.

Apart from that little lot, all of the usual things involved in buying a second hand performance car...

Cool

Hi,

I bought my 94 WRX for 8K in Feb, so I would guess that, as Jerome says, 8-10K would be about right. The only problems I had was insurance. Not many companies wanted to touch it cos it was a Jap import. I found priveledge to be the most helpful. No other real things to look out for as far as I remember.

Cool

I managed to haggle a UK 5 door MY96 (feb 96) from a dealer in Feb for 8.3K it was up for 10K... full service history but 76,000miles....
My point being a UK car is within that price range... also bought in November 2000 a MY95 UK 5 door for 8K....

The 5 door cars don't sell very quickly, my local dealer has had a P reg for months...

I am sure for this reason I was able to haggle a lot off the price as they sell slow.
So you should be able to do the same.

Also why pay a dealer premium for an Import?
Get one private that some else has run for a year or so and already ironed out any problems with it.
I only popped into the dealers on my way to travel 500miles (round trip) to look at one privately, in the end the one in the dealers was cheaper than the private one I was going to look at, so I bought it.

Question

Hi

a friend is looking at joining the scooby owning fraternity.

they've seen a few so far, all imports due to their budget.

a specialist (smallish) dealer near them in the Stoke area have a 95 WRX 5 door, 240bhp in black with 48,000km (30k miles ?)

what is this worth in the current market ?

also i've never looked at imports myself having purchased a uk my00 last year.

any advice i can pass onto them about what to look out for when buying an older import ?

any advice gr8ly appreciated. anyone recommend places to buy a used scooby in the Stoke on Trent area ? (mail me offline if you want.)

cheers

steve

Hi

My 95 WRX is insured with Bell Direct on 0990 492000... my insurance is up for renewal shortly , but they were by far the cheapest at the time ... and have been with them for the last two years...

MY95 WRX, i would think £8K max.(but dealers are still optimistic) Ive just sold my old MY93 WRX for £6700.

I replaced it with a 97 WRX STI v3 TypeR (in Sonic Blue ) for £11K. I bought it from the private sales section on this board

Phil.
