Edit: when I said "new" car, I meant different car, doesnt have to be new, ta.
Just wanted some views on a good, reasonably fun car, that is cheap to run, and particullaly, cheap to insure (ie. Max group 7).
I want to spend around £10 000, and top of the list at the moment are the Pug 306 2.0 HDi Turbo Diesel, and the 1.8 XS.
Anyone have any experience with these cars, and do you have any other recommendations for the money?

A Saxo VTR is group 7 I think? comes with free insurance as well!

just over £9000 brand new at the moment with metalic paint (£8895 without)

Thanks for the suggestion, I do get the feeling somehow that Pugs are the better cars, but Ill check out the Saxo, but it will be 2nd hand, as I imagine the depreciation on a car like that is huge, so I could pick up a deal.

 

The HDi are very nippy, used to have a 306 GTI-6 and it was no slouch, the HDI was slower but had more torque. Theres also Van Aaken who do a nice optimisation on it to give it even more poke.......

 

Being 21 the free insurance takes a large chunk of the depreciation away fortunately! I have driven a 306 diesel and it was a good drive but they were mostly out of the price range I could afford especialy after insurance! (21 + 0 no claims = loads even on a diesel!!)

The insurance grouping is 5 for the diesel, and 6 for the XS, though there are going to be tears when I say goodbye to the Teg (if, if I say goodbye).
Im 28, but no NCB, so I want to try and keep insurance as low as poss.
Never had a diesel before, though that 56MPG is such an attraction, I imagine the torque and pace is plenty, it doesnt have to be blinding, but still be a bit of fun.

 

why are you thinking of loosing the integra ? just looking for a change ?

 

If you buy a pug don't expect the dealers to treat you like some one who is spending a large chunk of money with them. In my experiance they treat you more like something they just scraped off their shoe (this was also refected in their JD Power rating)

 

Nope, not looking for a change (I wish), basically, the Teg is an expensive weekend hobby, and my girlfriend and I start renting a more expensive place from the 28th, and its getting to the point where so much money goes on the car, that it just doesnt warrent it anymore for the amount of use I get.
I may keep it, cause I really love it, but more realistically, its going to go, and be replaced with something that my girlfriend can also get insured on, or Ill just use her 106 for a bit.
Still want to have something that can be fun, but want to keep costs as low as poss, hence a frigging diesel!! I wouldnt have dreamt of a diesel a month ago, but these are the things we do for girlfriends and all I guess.
