Default GX Sport Styling and Induction

Hi Everyone
Im rather new here, il start off by telling you all i own a 2004 blob eye subaru impreza GX Sport non-turbo, only modifications are non- resi cobra sport exhaust and a set of rota 17" alloys.
Iv only owned this car for a few months but am already thinkin of little modifications here and there, i know what you all going to say 'why didnt you just buy a turbo', the reason is i went from a driving a fiest 1.25 for 5 years to purchasing this for a low price. So even if i spend a couple of grand on mods the price still wouldnt be as high if i brought a wrx turbo or sti turbo.
But back to the point of the thread iv been looking at induction kits like these:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3906069548...84.m1438.l2649
http://www.japspeed.co.uk/Subaru-Imp...t/p-24-1-1280/

But after some research money isnt too much of an issue but iv read varying things from induction like this increases bhp slightly and slightly responsiveness with the accelerator, to there not really good at all and im better off sticking with the standard box, Which brings me onto just changing the filter, ive heard these are the best filters:

http://www.scoobyparts.com/acatalog/...NON_TURBO.html

but i also read someone saying he did tests with them and the could let through particals as big as a grain of sand, so maybe i should just get a standard K and N performance filter.

What do you guys think have you had any experience with any of these?

Also another question, does anyone have these on there Subaru blob eye?
http://www.scoobyparts.com/acatalog/...EADLIGHTS.html
cant find any decent pictures with them in a scooby blob eye.

Any constructive comments would help alot.

You won't get much if any power increase from a induction kit on a Gx, well
Nothing noticeable any how, but if you go for a hard pipe induction kit with a cone filter on the end you will get a nice induction noise, you won't get that with a panel filter,

I would also recomend getting a unequal length manifold as will make it sound more like a turbo car.

I would stick with a decent
Panel filter if I were you k&n. as for
The headlights. There hiddious. Just detango them and maybe do the black mod on the chrome surround once separated.

I've owned a GX sport in the past, it was my first Scoob and the only piece of advice I can give you is, I would worry to much about getting more power out of it as the the cost to do this wont justify the gains. I would go for handling, brakes and maybe styling.

I can't see the benefit of a KnN panel filter tho as you gain nothing but a empty wallet? No more noise and no more power? On a turbo car yes panel filter all the way as the gains are proven? But it depends what your after, I've modified many Na scoobs in the past and had a road rally 2.5 Na car and for me to get near 200bhp was a mission in its self

An empty wallet buying a panel filter compared to an induction kit??! Tbh mate. You can't polish a turd you can only roll it in glitter and that's what's happening here. Don't waste your money on mods like this ad you won't gain from them. Ad stick to styling if I were you.

To be honest though if you do spend a couple of grand on mods like you say you still won't end up with a car that's as capable as a wrx or sti IMO.

Ye my point is with a hard pipe induction kit (£30 off eBay) at least you gain induction noise , with a pannel filter you gain nothing?

But yes you wont get hardly any gains from mods unless you but high comp piston kit from the states or supercharge the engine and that will only see 150-170 bhp with supporting mods, this is why I went down the route of fitting a 2.5 quad cam engine from a legacy into my gc8 sport thus seeing 170 bhp from stock, with head work, Induction kit, lightend pullys, cobra decat, borla headers, long life 2.5 system, warlbro pump, standalone management and a remap we saw 200bhp, so all that for a 30bhp gain, but forced induction is not allowed on road rally's!

spend the couple grand on dropping in a WRX or STi lump and keep it a GX on the log book, etc.

Think everyones missing the point, i know full well im not going to get 200bhp, im not to interested in that, iv read it over and over again on this forum. All i want to do is bits here and there. Just a few extra bhp is all im after. basically fine tweaking. Im not just going to buy any ole thing off ebay, ill be buying from online scooby specialists or the manufactuer.

But back to air filters, will fitting a K and N induction give me a few extra horses, or is it just for noise purposes and llooses a couple of hhorses?
Or bugger all that and just fork out £40 ish on a K and N panel filter?

I guess no one likes the llights i originaly posted in this thread, interested to see what people think. Just thought they looked quite smart and qwerky.

You won't see any gains you will feel at all in anyway shape or form. Spend your money on making it look the part mate.

As this guy says, you need a cone filter, gives you a nice sound

As much as all those induction filter kits tell you, on any car I have put them on, I have never noticed a difference in power, on my WRX it actually slows my spool up speed a little

Cobra exhaust sounds lovely, gives a proper subaru deep sound, Although it came already attatched to the back of the car, im in the process of returning it to get a replacement becuase somewhere/somehow the exhaust can came off, so have been using this as a temporary measure

Iv not made my mind up yet because iv read of people having problems with them getting to hott, but ill see. Iv not dont any in car audio yet, iv been thinking about it, nothing too major tho. But id be taking it to a specialised to have that done, have no knowledge at all about car audio.
Have also looked into changing the dash leds from the puke green to blue but that means alot of faffing about but would be a nice touch.

Has anyone with an induction put a turbo bonnet on a non turbo scooby. Was just wondering if the cold air being scooped into the engine would benefit the induction?
