After having a good blast last night and killing my brake discs i also noticed my oil temp was getting to 120 degrees, Question is do people run oil coolers and if so where have you mounted it?

Also does it make the oil temp more stable?

Helps with oil temps loads,,,mine is mounted behind my front mount intercooler

 

You shoudnt need one on a road car unless you drive it like you stole it all the time,but if you are going to fit one then make sure you fit a thermostatically controlled cooler as this will keep the oil at optimum running temps no matter what the ambient temps are,very important in this country as we have a lot more cold weather than hot.

 

Would feel better with one fitted, Who could supply me with a thermostatically controlled cooler then?

not true matey, some cars run hotter than others. My classic hit 105 degrees with a spireted drive (private road fo course ) during a hot day, it peaked at 110 even when i backed off at 105. That was 6 years ago and 20,000 miles ago (when i sold it it anyway). It's not a problem if they do as long as you dont let them get too hot.

Scoobyclinic oil cooler kit went on, including thermostatic control, and i never say anything above 90 after that.

 

With my factory cooler Ive never even seen 100 degree oil temp, Got my defis set at 100 and the closest it's been is about 97

 

don't spec c have uprated oil cooler anyway?

They come with a factory oil cooler as standard where the sti model didnt, Not sure if it is an uprated one as there isnt a standard one if you know what I mean...apart from the spec-c models.
