Default newbie looking to get an sti

Alright. Just looking for some advice on buying an sti. Currently drive a corsa vxr. Been looking at sti's and who's but who's are still a bit out my price range so going for and sti. Going for one between 2005 and 2007 for about 8-10k. Now i have found a 07 2.5t one for 8.5k with 44k mileage. i have heard some where that the 2.5 engine is weaker than the 2.0 ones so wondering if this is true?

So any advice is much appreciated and hope to get one pretty soon.

Cheers

Lucky

Welcome to scoobynet mate!!

If I were you I would stay away from a 2.5 unless it has been forged!! If I had your budget I would go for a blob sti widetrack (jdm) or a spec c.

You want to be looking at an 05 widetrack blob. A jdm may be a little over your budget

Cheers for the replies. I'm not too bothered about tuning so standard is fine. The 2.5 model do the problems they have affect standard or modded examples?? I'm really looking to cut down my outgoings as im paying off a loan for my vxr, its an 11 plate. Preferably im looking for a UK model (easy for parts etc) and im sure to maintain a jdm will be quite costly.

No difference in running costs between uk and jdm that I know of!! And the 2.5's are a bit of a time bomb standard or mapped!!

So had a look at some blob eyes and seen some decent examples. I'll no doubt keep it the way i buy it so either looking for standard or one with ppp and one with the lowest miles as i can possibly find. (will be difficult i know).

Can someone also let me know roughly how much you'd spend a year maintaing like cost of servicing etc...

this ones mileage is just a bit high

This is the 2.5 in i was looking at and its roughly the same price as the blob eyes

I wouldn't be buying a Subaru if you are looking to cut down on spending they cost a fortune in every way petrol and servicing unless u do it yourself !!

I was thinking exactly the same thing? You're selling the VXR so you can buy a scooby to save money?

I have owned a corsa VXR and now own a 2003 JDM sti. The difference in running costs between them is astronomical. The Subaru costs far, and I mean far, more than the VXR to run in every single way (except mot). Tax, insurance, servicing / maintenance, parts and of course, the biggest difference....petrol.

If you're looking to save money over the running costs, steer clear of the scoob buddy

Apart from petrol obviously lol, I don't think my blob STI is dearer than any other performance car I've ran in the past, I had a quote recently from Alyn at AS performance for a full cam belt check/replace and tbh I was really surprised at how cheap it was. I do all of my own spannering unless ( like Cambelt ) I need the paperwork for the history.

If you do your own spannering I think the parts are quite reasonable, its all the bloody modifying you can't help doing that starts costing the ££££'s

By cutting my outgoings I mean my loan. Webuyanycar initial quote for mine is 11.9k. I pay £300 a month for it. So quicker i clear that can start saving the £300 for maintaining a car. I finish paying it off next august. Petrol am not too bothered about i do at the most 10-15 miles a day when going to work. I get 2 weeks out my tank if i only go to work and the gym. I won't be doing any modifying. Would only add the ppp if it didn't have it already.
