DKR - I had my scoob stolen a month ago. I looked a replacing it with a 98 M3. It really doesn't feel as if it is in the same performance league. You have to keep it above 5000 rpm for the fun to start. That said, if you are after comfort and quality then a scoob probably isn't the car for you. If you are looking for speed and thrills then go for it. You won't regret it.

get one, I've a MY00 and love every second of it, but be aware of the following

1.The paintwork is not very hard wearing (to say the least) - especially DBM.
2.The doors are very lightweight and dent easy (already 5 car park dents on mine)
3.If you use the loud pedal alot you'll get around 15mpg if you're lucky
4.insurance is rising again!
5.You'll grow additional muscles in your face from the constant grin.
6.You may find yourself waking up early on Sunday mornings to go for an early thrash.

I'm changing my car in a few months and was seriously considering either a 2000MY turbo or new WRX (ugly though it is).

I had believed the hype about Scoobies being the dogs bo***cks, but after reading a few of the posts here, I'm having my doubts about dealers, build quality etc.

I know most of you will be biased, but all things considered should I buy one or go back to my original plan of a 5 year old M3 ?

Cool

definitely get one.

my MY00 is a year old in a couple of weeks and every drive is still grin grin grin

you need to go drive one though and see for yourself.

why are you now considering a scoob over your 'original' plan of an M3 ?

i've not driven an M3 so not able to comment on a direct comparison.

interior build quality might not match a bmw or audi etc but mechanical build and reliability seems to be 1st rate.

as for dealers, there are plenty out there so i am sure someone will be able to recommend one near you.

mine is gr8, helpful, friendly etc

cheers

steve

IMHO, buy a WRX.

It's not as fast in a straight line as a MY00 but it's interior is 100% better, it is ugly but the MY00 couldn't be described as pretty and you will have a modern up to date car for 5 years.

Steve

PS aparently it goes around corners better too.

I agree with Steve: the interior of my WRX is an age apart from MY2000, and IMHO it drives far better than my old MY2000. It is also quieter and more refined.

I agree go and buy one. I'd never been inside one until I got mine, but I wouldn't change it for anything now (within reason ofcourse).

I think that Olly's comments are right the new one is supposed to be more refined, and I have yet to drive one, but what I would say is that I'm not sure if refeined is what I'd want - loud and aggresive is though, and that's what they are - you won't be disappointed.

I can assure anyone with a WRX that refinement is thrown out of the window with a fully de-catted ScoobySport downpipe, centre section and a ProDrive backbox. I never liked refinement anyway!! It restricted power.

My Astravan Sportiv is actually A LOT quieter at 90mph though.
