Default MY99 classic suspension upgrade

I have just acquired my second classic impreza, the first one i owned had the prodrive handling pack consisting of bilstein/eibach combo and other mods, it drove really well, and in comparison the standard one i have now is pants in comparison!

I do like a hard ride as the scooby won't be my daily but has anybody fitted the eibach springs on a standard my99 with the standard struts?

I'm not looking to shell out a load of cash so what are my best options? uprated springs or coil overs? What are the best on a budget coilovers to go for on a my99 uk turbo 2000?

cheer matt

I had Prodrive suspension on my 99 plate also. Then replaced with BC's, was soooo much better. OK a lot of it will be because they were new but was really impressed with them on the classic. I had 5/4 springs on mine and has firm but not uncomfortable by any means. Also the car sat much better as the Prodrive it for the classic has the hose up in the air about too much and the BC's allow you to drop the now a little for much better turn in.

I think BC's quite good on the classic, however agree that if you didn't want to down that route then struts and Eibachs are a good choice. However the car will sit the way the springs are with no adjustment. What ever you prioritise I suppose. Both have advantages and disadvantages. Ade

I know mine cost me over £600 plus another £200 fitting and setup. However if you keeping it for a couple of years then is worth it. Also fit anti lift kit if you can as makes a massive improvement. If the shell is near rust free on rear arches then is worth it, however if arches a mess then I would sell and find another one to mod. Good luck

I had whiteline anti lift, front and rear drop links and ppp, i really mis my my old car, i didn't realise the standard ones were so bad!, i wish i could buy my old one back tbh!

Still, the new one is a good standard example in 792 silver 89,000 miles with full history and is very straight apart from a bit of the rear arch plague, desperatly needs the anti lift and then shocks, remap it's gonna cost me a fortune...

And er... what are the kyb agx?

So can i get away with eibach springs, whiteline anti lift and rear drop links to sort the handling? will the standard struts be too soft??

kyb agx are the standard struts off an STI.

Look out for a late set of red struts.

If you are lucky they will still have some writing on it. Otherwise, I'm not sure

Those are standard UK Turbo struts, i.e. not STI. Yes they use standard mounts.

Those springs should give an inch drop iirc.

Ooooooh no they ain't. The KYB AGX is the 4 way front adjustable (small screw driver in the top) and rear eight way (knurled **** on the inside of the rear damper).

Ah yeah my bad, the AGX are the adjustable ones. Excel-G are standard turbo ones. Which were the red sti ones then?
