Cool

I'm worried as I'm about to part with the P1 and have spent the last 13 years moving from one car to another, not because the mix are bad cars, but because I have such enthusiasm for motorsport in general, that I can't wait to try the next car on my wish-list.

The funny thing is, even if a car is not as good as my last one, I still enjoy owning it and always find a positive thing that doesn't make me dislike it overall (apart from the ex's Yugo!!). I just enjoy the expectation and experience of certain marques hence have never as yet been happy to 'settle' down with one car for more than a year.

Just curious if I am minority in this petrolhead land...

When I started driving at 17, I used to get quickly bored with cars, even with what I thought were good ones. As I got older, I became more content with them and changed them less frequently. Had my prevoius car for four years before changing to the scooby which I got in Nov 1999. I'm not planning to change it for a very long time, unless my second car becomes a classic ferrari (alway liked the BB512i from 1980's) or a classic porsche 911/930 or de tomaso (pantera GTS) etc etc. But I would still keep the scooby.

Without going into every tom/dick/harry's car list, what was your car history, and realistic wish list for the next motor ??

I get bored with cars too - it's nothing to do with whether they're any good or not, just that after a couple of years I'm after a change in surroundings.

Unfortunately, I also find myself wanting something quicker each time, and not by a small amount either. I currently have a MY00 with PPP (fitting the PPP delayed the boredom by about a year!), and a couple of weeks ago I test drove the new STI. It wasn't enough of a change, so I'm now keeping the Scooby and looking for a V8-engined Westfield to go with it

Hopefully, having a choice of cars each morning will delay the boredom a bit longer, especially as they're so different to each other. I've no idea at all what I'd be looking at after that, though - hopefully by then I'll be old enough to start wanting a car that's comfier rather than one that accelerates harder. If not, then we're all in trouble

Andy.

yup, I get bored... cars that I've had in the last year :-)

MY94 WRX
MY96 Mercedes E320 Avantgarde
MY01 Seat Ibiza Cupra
MY99 RB5 <- my current 'love'

As much as I love the RB5 I keep being drawn toward Skylines
and Honda NSX's ;-)

Hi,
1st post here. We've just bought a '95 Legacy Turbo Estate,
primarily for my wife, due to the arrival of our 1st cub.

They say every real driver, who can afford it, ends up in
a 911. I'd say there's some truth in that, as it's a very
rewarding car to own & drive. Maybe some of you would be
happier with one (or more!!) of those- there are car nuts in
the US, and probably here too, that have more than one (eg
a lightweight early car- very sharp and responsive and also
a later, more sophisticated model).

There's something about them- the steering feel, the
responsiveness, the way they ride and the fact that they
are different from other cars.

I got the Legacy because it seemed to be the best driver's
car available with enough space. So far I'm very happy
with it and it indefinitely. Any advice on long term
maintenance appreciated!

Cheers,
W.

Wink

I tend to get through 1 car a year, just about to buy a WRX - hoping it will last longer than a year this time, mainly because of the "club" part of owning a Scooby ie a need to keep in the gang.

Me too - TVR Chimaear up for sale!!! (sadly my bext purchase will not be quite as quick as it is made from bricks and mortar!)

I have never had a car more than 12 months as I find you lose very little money and get to sample lots of nice things!

I find a good way to "delay the boredom" is to have a "normal" car as well. Drive that when driving something nice would be a waste (going to Tescos, driving anywhere round town, motorway only journey) and then when you get back in your "proper" car, it feels that much faster and more special.

This method means that every time I get in my Scoob, it feels reasonably fast and new(ish).

(having said all that, if I get in the Scoob after having been out on my bike, it has the reverse effect and feels dog slow.... )
