Default Type r not making expected power

Hi guys and girls, after my previous thread about my v3 sti type r running issue, I ended up having an alcatek ecu fitted by the brilliant Simon Roe. The car has a full decat, fuel pump, vf23 and panel filter, and made 280hp at 1.2 bar of boost. Both Simon and Charlie (SRR) mentioned that this was a little bit low, I'm just wondering if anyone has any ideas as to why? I've been recommended to get a front mount and give that a go, but don't really want to chop the front bumper as the car is standard looking. the vf23 makes the boost its called for and everything seems healthy engine wise, has anyone had a similar experience? Thanks in advance!

Fuel pressure regulator and a change of injector size may help

Surely your mapper and/or Charlie could answer your question ????
What did Simon say about the low figure ?

280 with that spec (if everything is working ok) is pretty low, the 23 is capable of well over 300bhp.
You dont need a front mount either chap. Newage TM is the way forward for you. Your current injectors are good for well over 300 too so it wont be those holding you back.

like already said you dont need a front mount untill you start heading toward 400 injectors ect will be fine or they would of noticed when it was mapped it may just be 1 of those things i wouldnt worry about it unless theres a problem

It was agreed it was one of those things, obviously some cars exceed expectations and some don't make expectations. Maybe a top mount would be a good way to go instead of front mount then! It's a nice reliable 280 but its still a bit irritating when other cars with the same mods are making 40hp more than you. I can't fault Simon and Charlie at all though, after all they've seen loads on the dyno I'd imagine!

Mine made 294 with vf23,550cc injectors@ 1.4 bar mapped by Andy f! He said low readings would be caused by heat soak before and during rolling road! Mine pulls really well on the road!

How often should the valve clearances be checked on models with shims?

1.2 bar is not very high, why so low? that engine would be happy running at 1.4/1.5 bar and with those mods and that turbo ought to be 340 to 350 bhp. The STi 3 engine is a good one. The std intercooler is a bit pants, you could fit a new age STi top mount they normally can support up to 400 bhp as long as the scoop is picking the air up properly

BUT ... what fuel is in use as that can have a big effect.

Mapping a top mount car on the rollers is always a compromise and if you get one thats edgy then it will not be possible to produce the figures expected. And Simon will not have pushed it if it was suffering quite rightly so as well.

Std power in Japan is 276 bhp using japanese fuel.

cheers

The car was mapped on vpower. Unless its not a type r engine? Although there's no signs of it being out of the car....almost a bad thing as it can't have had a rebuild! I've heard the v3 sti topmounts are a bit poo, first port of call definitely.

Has it done huge mileage ???
As Bob said, boost is a little low. Maybe get a newage sti top mount fitted and have the map tweaked with a bit more boost.

Also out of interest, what made you go with an alcatek ??
