if I have to replace my gearbox on my bugeye, which do you recommend getting?
is there any difference between the wrx and the sti?
if the sti is better, is it a direct replacement ?
cheers si

I know only very little but i think an sti is a mych stronger 6 speed and a wrx is a bit of a weak 5 speed.
Put up what sort of power you're aiming for and people will suggest what to go for i.e JDM or uk and what year and additional bits you'll need.

its a 2001 uk 300 bugeye...
heres the spec
Subaru Impreza UK300 2.5 2001 (number 181 of 300)
Private plate included P300 WRX
In the last 6 years this car has wanted for nothing with no expense spared
Also has RAC Trackstar (this makes my insurance £320 per year)
Upgrades I have added are as follows
New 2.5 engine @ 79000 miles cost £4500
VF34 Turbo @ 79000 miles cost £700 ish
Uprated clutch & flywheel
K&N Typhoon still have original
Full stainless decat but still have originals
ECU Tec re-map
Producing 317 BHP & loads of torque being a 2.5
ECU Tec data monitor (this will tell you everything boost pressure, RPM, intake temp & loads more)
Spent over £2000 on brakes at the beginning of the year

^^^^ that almost sounds like a for sale ad.....
Wrx has 5 speed and sti has 6 speed. Both will be fine at your power level but the price difference is huge. 5 speed can be had for under £400 and a 6 speed is over a grand.
6 speed is much much stronger so if your thinking that you might search for more power (over 400) in the future then go 6 speed.

im happy with the power i ve got tbh....i might take it up a bit more 350 tops as i dont wanna throw loads of cash at it, i think im gonna stick with a 5 speed box, so will a wrx box or sti be the better of the 2? ( if theres any difference)
There isn`t a 5 speed sti box for the bug they all came with 6 speeds, There is a classic shape sti 5 speed box(TY752) but wont be as strong as the newage WRX 5 speed box(TY754), Not that there is much in it anyway, The big difference is in the 6 speed and also the price.
