That's probably all it's worth in the currant market. He'd be far better off breaking it, I'm sure he'd get most of his money back for the 6 speed.

Look at it like this, the fella wants rid and will no doubt take £2500 for it. Id get it home, stick a 5 speed in it and move it on for £2000 or maybe a touch more. Id then have a nice 6 speed box for less than £500.

True, V cheap way to get a 6 speed or even make some cash out of it. However someone after a classic for themselves won't have any benefit from a 6 speed at that power so the car is only worth the asking price unless you need the 6 speed or you are a breaker.

Or if someone is looking for a base car to start a decent power build.

But why would someone sell the whole car for less the what he/she paid for the gearbox?

If the seller paid 3k for the gearbox surely they know that its worth more then that price?

Maybe focked up gearbox and hopping for it to go unnoticed?

Agree that when something appears to good to be true it usually is but times are hard at the min and bargains are coming up.
Just needs someone who knows what they are looking at to spend a few minutes with it.

53 on here bought a stunning classic with a six speed last year for around that price. There are bargains to be had occasionally.
