I seem to go through the 5 speed gearboxes on the 93 wrx more often than necessary. The 2nd and 3rd gear syncros seem to go.

Has anyone put a 6 speed on from a newer model Subaru and if so, what needed doing? (Changing driveshafts, rear diff or sorting the electronic diff)

Any advice would be great!

Yes it can be done. You'll need the gearbox, propshaft, driveshafts etc. I assume that you don't want to go DCCD as that wold be more work. I've a MY98 V4 Type R with a 6 speed DCCD 'box fitted. Just get a non DCCD setup and its quite straightforward.

 

You can also use a 5 speed from a newage car which is a bit stronger than the classic box.

What power you running?

 

yeah it can u need diff rear half shafts propshaft and a 6 speed box

 

You don't need to swap any drive-shafts if you just get hold of a non-DCCD UK box and R160 uk rear diff.

 

This is good advice. You also don't need to run a 6 speed flywheel clutch and starter motor you can keep your existing 5 speed stuff.

 

As above,i ran my 6 speed DCCD box using my 5 speed rear diff,shafts,clutch,starter and hubs for a while with no issues at all.

It is the 2ltr turbo, boosting to around 16psi. Not sure what BHP.

 

Also, which donor car would you use? They have different version 6-speeds...

 

if its not 350hp or above just fit the version 5 box and diff its alot stronger and has longer gearing
