Is there anything i should be looking out for or be wary of guys?

Seems to look a good spec and sounds like been looked after

Personally I wouldnt go near it,its had engine apart less than 500 miles ago..no chance

Why would you remove the engine, open it up for an inspection & put it back together without uprating the pistons, rods & bearings???

basically hes done the work most hawkeyes have to have done, the only thing he didnt do is the clutch, ive had this engine work done after my head gasket went, he has spent the money and upgraded it all so you have nothing to worry about if its been done right. The only thing id want to do is call the garage that did the work to confirm it all. It cost me nearly 2k for mine as you also need to get it mapped again, i had the new clutch fitted though so thats an extra few hundred.

To be honest its the usual stuff to check for, the car with this work is good for 400hp anything over that an you will want forged pistons. Just check it drives smooth and pulls smoothly in every gear from low to high in the rev range. He's also had the suspension done so again another mod you dont have to worry about and he has a switchable map. exactly what i was after but the mapper who did mine said it wasnt possible.

Best advice usually is take someone who wont be like you and fall in love with the car, listen to him and take his advice, providing that is he knows what he is on about haha, main thing is though to speak to the garage that did the work and make sure its actually been done, then hand over some readies and enjoy the smiles

thats like cutting open you wifes stomach to make sure her whom is ok

oh and sorry to say but its the slowest colour, my hawk has the same sort of spec but its quicker as its black

cos it costs over 1k for the bits, unless your going to be taking your power up an past 400 then its not worth it. Not everyone thinks the forged route is the only route and nor does everyone have the money to do it

Well wont be making any on the spot decisions

Ill get some numbers of who's done the work and give them a ring. also see if can get number of the owner see what info he has.

Even with uprated studs & HG, I think 400hp on OE EJ257 internals is pushing it massively!

Would an OE PPP be ok on a standard EJ257 do you think?

Approx 320hp?

Doesnt an engine require 1000 miles run in after head gasket change?..So you plod it for 500 miles..then it goes pop when you boot it after run in...who gives the guarantee...Ive been here,it happens.Seeing as its not run in ..can you really test drive it as you should.

Mike Wood who worked at Prodrive & the development of the RB320, said that 360 was pushing the EJ257 beyond it's limits! Hence the RB only has 320.

But still, the block itself which in it's first incarnation in MY06 had HG weaknesses, which they worked on for the MY07.
Just a shame that Subaru didn't do a EJ257 CDB with thicker liners, like the JDM's! The only reason i'll be going for a 2.2CDB stroked to 2.35!!

Well the car will of been mapped again due to the heads being skimmed so id say it was tested out fairly quickly after the rebuild, i dont think you have anything to worry about myself, if the engine was showing signs of going pop then it would of during the map if you ask me

have you got holf of jgm on here? it says he mapped it

Nice car and echo the above around the engine, but for that mileage and that amount of money its up for, I think in this climate you could possibly buy better with lower mileage if you look around and wait a short while, maybe January when everybody is skint.

400bhp no way !
Mine let go at 359bhp and the car is rarely driven hard. I had pistons #2 & 4 crack ringlands. Also the standard head bolts are not rated to that power. IM say the standard pistons are only rated to 300bhp which seemed strange seeing they were used in the RB320 and 330 sti. To be ok at 400 you will need ARP studs, forged pistons and good gaskets. For 450 and over you would also need forged rods. On standard internals i would advise keeping the car at it's standard power level. This 400bhp claim is an internet re-post myth.
