Basically, in my experience, as long as all your other docs are in order, and you could get one before the end of your 7 day period for the ho/rt1, then it would be a warning and NFA.

*disclaimer* In no way am I condoning driving with no MOT. *disclaimer*

no MOT = no insurance.

so a slap on the wrist and a fine of 20 pence and a lolly probably knowing our lovely justice system.

edited to add:
or if you're really naughty and do it lots you'll probably get an all expenses safari or some such like some little ******* seem to!

I know someone who didnt have one... actually didnt realise... He let it go to court said he had sold the car so didnt now have the documents, but produced everything else... They just gave him a telling off.

Lucky *******...

If anybody in the police force wants an anonymous tip off to where he is now as he's a wanted man then mail me

The ****** owes me money for a car he 'bought' off me but never paid for it, then crashed into someone uninsured and then fcked off.

NFA = No Further Action

I did exactly the same - never even realised the motor had gone over it's 'mot not required' period since the last time I had got the tax.

Everything else in order, got MOT sharpish, went into police station and explained. Got a stern look from desk sarge and that was it.

I suppose it depends how long it was out - mine was about 5 weeks as I recall...

I would say not a lot, an MOT only reflects the condition of a car on the day of the test. I reckon if you got one by the time you produced yours docs then that would be OK!!

As for insurance, an insurance company would probably use the fact you have no MOT and/or no road tax to get out of paying up for a comprehensive claim, however I doubt they would refuse to pay out for a third party claim.
