Default IC Spray Button

Quick question:

Is the IC spray button back lit like the other switches at night?

Mine is - 07/07 STi Spec D, but I noticed recently that the I/C bit doesn't light up, but the water spray writing on the button does.

Just a boring useless observation of mine!

Yes, and on my Blobeye STI only the WATER SPRAY lights up as above. However, sorry to hijack your topic, but my rear fog switch doesn't back light. I tried a few others from a scrapper and they didn't light up either. I was told that it didn't but that doesn't make sense, why wouldn't it if the front one back lights???

Is there a user serviceable bulb in these switches or do I need to replace the switch?

Aha, seems there is a removable bulb holder on the side of the switch. The bulb seems wired into the holder though, either you can get these bulbs at a dealer or maybe you have to replace the whole switch. You would have thought that if the bulb is removable it would be changeable on it's own though...

You CAN remove the bulb, just unwrap the wire... :-)

Wonder could u put an led in ? I did this with the same type of bulb in my heater controls. Just used a tiny led , stripped the wires to the same length as the ones on the old bulb and wrapped it around the holder the same way the bulb did.

Nice link. I've done a bit of experimenting, there are two bulb holders on these switches. The top one is the light that lights up to confirm switch is ON, the bottom is the backlighting. I swapped a top bulb holder from another switch into the bottom and it works, although the back lighting is too bright. All my spare switches have the bottom bulb blown, so the backlighting ones seem to be common to blow. I'll try Subaru in the morning, or Halfords for a comparable bulb, or keep trying scrappys...

The problem with using an led is it wont match the others, and I suppose I could have left the brighter bulb in but I'd rather have them all matching in brightness...

Cheers guys...

Ok, I've sorted it.

First thing I phoned my local Subaru dealer, asked him for the bulb on it's own. He said he would check and get back to me.

And he did.... Subaru don't sell the bulbs on their own, only the switch which is £50....cough cough, yeah that'll be right! He couldn't understand as it's a removable bulb holder. Anyway, I had a few switches from scrap yards, all with back light bulb blown, but would try a scrap yard again before paying that for a switch.

Next, Halfrauds, no joy but not really surprised....

Next, Maplins who were very helpful and had these bulbs on sale...

http://www.maplin.co.uk/wire-terminal-type-1955

Only £1.29, ok give me a couple of them then.... The one on the left is the Maplins bulb, original on the right...

The bulb is a little bit smaller, but wires up ok...

And it works, It's a bit brighter than the other fog lamp backlight, not easy to see in the pic, but it is noticeable in the car...

So, being the perfectionist that I am... I replaced the other fog light backlighting with the same as the new one, much better. Hard to see in my daylight pics, but really impressed with it.

So, there you go, forget the stealer, get yourself down to Maplins and get yourself a few BT43W's and you'll be back in Backlight Heaven....

nice one , wonder would Maplins do the dash bulbs too ? You will find the older one are duller as the glass gets a bit burnt .

How do the switches come out BTW ? Noticed my I/C spray one is blown !
