I already have stone chips and a slight indentation on my bonnet.

I have an STi7 (350 miles) with an alluminium (Sp!) bonnet and I must have been a little ham fisted when pushing it closed. It really is only a slight indentation but I know it is there

Has anyone else managed to deface there car in this way or is it just me? I am now more aware of the 'soft' bonnet and am very careful.

How much do you recken it will cost me to have it sorted and who would you use? Somebody like Dent Wizard? Does anyone have a number for them in the North West?

Next question, can you get a touch up pen for the Mica WR Blue? Is this a dealership thing? How much should I be paying?

Thanks for your help guys and be careful with the alluminium bonnets..

My advice when closing your bonnet would be to let it drop closed and not push it down. Obviously don't drop it from its fully opened position but say 3 or 4" from being closed.

Steve,

welcome to the world of stone-chips. It's a very common problem with these cars, especially down the sides and at the bottom of the front wings. The tyres seem to stick out a bit further than the standard WRX, and they also seem to pick up more stones and gravel off the road. I've even had a stone come up off the tyre and go across the bonnet when going around a corner. Thankfully no damage done that time.

I'm currently looking to make up a set of small plastic mud flaps to suit the front wheels, but which won't cost the £200 for the proper STi ones.

You can get touch up pens, but I believe they are currently on back order (or so I heard), due to demand!

John

Thacks for the reply. I'll get in touch with the dealer then to get a touch up pen.

Ian, I DID let the bonnet drop a few inches (3-5) but with the bonnet being so light it didn't 'snap' closed and needed a reassuring shove (which transpires was over enthusiatic on my part ).

Question is, where can I get this sorted and how much should I pay?

Steve.

Steve you could try dentmaster or dentdevil etc (never used them) I did hear that you could book them via Halfords or go straight to the RAC as they brought one of them up I think.
Try doing a search on www.yell.com

Have a quick word with your dealer - they might know of a reputable company in your area. I had some dents that the friendly local pine tree donated - pine cones from 40ft - and the local dealer got a small, one man band to deal with it when it was in for service. Very reasonable price too!

Ian,

Cheers for that. I have a number but can't get through (not being answered) 0800 433687.

I shall try them later and see what they say.

Tiggs,

Sorry to hear you have a similar issue

Given the reputation of Subaru paintwork, you might want to get Armourfend or something similar before it all goes spotty...

Robbies (Rochdale) sorted my dented bonnet. Or you could try Richard Hoyland 07930 473 942 who comes highly recommended by a Scoob owning friend from the wilds of Yorkshire

should organise a trip to japan or hong kong or something. The STI mud flaps cost 170. But i thought that was too pricey for bits of plastic.

Banshi,

Thanks for that. Never thought of asking Robbies. That is where I picked it up from last Wednesday

How much did they charge you?

P1 mudflaps cost £20 and do the job just as well.

Steve

I noticed a dent on the top of the right front wing after a good polishing session the other day.

I started cursing all those people who slam door's into other peoples cars and have no respect at all.

Then it dawned on me .... the dent was in exactly the same place that I had rested against while polishing the air scoop :-O

It looks like I lent too hard (with my stomach!) on the wing, and hey presto a nice dent. Luckily for me you can only see it if you look down the side of the car.

J.

PS ... and I only weigh 11st 10lbs !

It was part of a bundle of odd jobs including replacing a chipped screen.

Have a word with John and he'll drag their dent man round to quote you

There has been a thread in General Technical on mud flaps, this has mainly been for the WRX, but it does have some details on fitting mud flaps to an STI.

The touch up pencils are just over a tenner at the dealer
I managed to get one straight away, though my car is the "less common" silver
