Default Massive insurance dilemma

Hi everyone,

First post on Scoobynet!

LookinG at a 1998 Impreza Wagon......model code GF8E58D. Impeccably maintained since import in 2008. All receipts, history parts etc etc.

Anyways, been trying to get some insurance quotes

IF I use the reg number and depending on which site I use, it recognises the car as a WRX and the cheapest I have found to date is £406 (yep, im an old codger)

If I use a certain comparison site and add the car manually (as it doesen't recognise the reg) but enter it as a jap import, cat 2 alarm etc and as a turbo 2000 4wd instead of a WRX, its currently coming up as £233 per year.

What do I do?

Look forward to your responses!

Cheers

I had the same problem mate, you'll find that if you use a comparison site, then go through with a quote and enter the reg on your chosen quotes site, the chances are it will recognise the reg. I did this on confused.com, had to put it in manually then when I went to the most appropriate quote I inputted the reg and the price changed.

Ok bud, I'll give that a go.

I reckon 406 isn't that bad anyway really.

Cheers fella

I would have already have the cheaper policy and would never have admitted guilty knowledge by opening an Internet thread. Ha

Turbo 2000 is uk only, wrx is an import, theres your price difference and if you crash with it the wrong way round a big bill as the insurance won't cover you.

I'm too honest for my own good.

Well, it seems that the insurer recognises the car and the quote has gone up from 206 to a massive........................................... ..260

My first Scoob too potentially.....wish me luck

Obviously it all depends on your personal details, but if I was paying that much for a 98 wagon I'd be crying! lol

You'd be better off going to a Subaru specialist like Keith Michaels (look in the insurance section for details). I pay just over £400 a year for a £15k 2006 Japanese STI running 450bhp and all mods declared.

That. If you try to insure it as a Turbo 2000, you're not insured.

every time I go through an online site I always ring the insurer direct just to confirm everything is correct. It's not worth missing something as when it's claim time they will see it as you failed to mention it.

When I used to list mods online and ticked the & other mods box - what did this cover.. Hense calling them

You'd also have no insurance.

Price comparison sites are not the best place to find insurance for an import. Try the Scoobynet specialist insurers, we're all listed in the insurance section.
