Rb5 / terzo
Hi all,
does anyone have or know of an rb5 For sale or coming up for sale; still looking for one of these but most seem to be either trashed or ridiculously high priced.
Would also be interested in a terzo.
Preferably un modified or lightly modded, not bothered about a perfect example as long as theres nothing major wrong, and the engine's in good working order.
One based in Yorkshire/ the north would be preferable
many thanks

If you dont mind high mileage (153k) there is one on eBay for £3k

You missed out on a Terzo that was for sale on here. It was a decent spec and a well maintained car but he couldnt give it away. Think it sold on ebay in the end for under 2k.
I dont see the value in an RB5 personally. I know theyre a ltd edition and the colour is lush but you pay a heavy premium for them when you'd be better off with a well sorted Sti for the same money.

If it's the one I'm thinking about the mileage was a bit high for me, and I think the car was based in London (too far). Looked nice though.
Would like an sti but the insurance would kill it for me; presuming the rb5 is based on the uk turbo I thought this would bring down the cost slightly.
Plus the limited status and the colour being an attraction. Certainly wouldn't rule out a standard uk turbo though.

If insurance is the main concern of your decision then i'd be getting some quotes first.
The basic spec of an RB5 is
To celebrate the return of British driver Richard Burns to the rally team, a limited edition of 444 WRX "RB5" models in gray were created in 1999 for the UK. The basic model had little more than cosmetic differences, but most had the WR Sport Performance Pack, an option consisting of a new ECU and exhaust for 240 PS (177 kW; 237 hp) and 350 N·m (258 lb·ft) torque. There was also an optional Prodrive suspension pack.
and the 1997/1998 Terzo was a run of 333 cars, again with basically little more than cosmetic differences to a standard WRX. Remember that a 1997/1998 car cannot have the standard ecu mapped without an ESL daughterboard so watch for any cars with lot of mods and no sign of a remap.

Think mine was the most recent terzo sold on here. In the end it went for £1950 to a bloke in France. There is an RB5 in the for sale section. If you shop around and have patience there are plenty of bargains out there. If its had an ecu work done then make sure you see proof of receipt of the work and even contact the mapper or garage to confirm it.

WRX ???
They were based on UK cars not WRX.
I see no point in paying a premium for one as in reality it's just a Uk turbo with a nice colour paint and a badge on the back. And £3000 for a 153,000 miler....lol....
I've just bought RB5 No380 for 2K. Unfortunately it's a Cat D and needs a bit of work but still when it's mint when I'm done with it I doubt the Cat D will seriously effect it's future value. I believe there's only 300 left too which is sure to come down. Terzo IMO isn't a special enough car to warrant any increase over a T2000.

Really ?? Guessing its done mega low miles.
If anything the Terzo is just as desirable if not more so than the Rb5. Far fewer were made making it rarer, which is the only reason the two cars demand a slight premium over a normal UK turbo.
Would you count 99k for a 13 year old car low? Also the work that needs doing isn't exactly a lot. A Cat D is nothing, I dread to think the amount of scoobys out there that have been 'Fixed' after a shunt without bein recorded.
I got my Terzo a few months ago and have seen some cheap ones come up, try gumtree, I saw a few on there.
One major plus point for the Terzo is that the insurance is considerably cheaper. Also as mentioned they are very rare, about 150 left in the UK and although they have no performance upgrades over a standard Turbo 2000 I get plenty of comments on mine, especially considering what its actually worth, theres guys in my street with cars costing 5 times more than mine who are more interested in my Terzo.
All IMO tho

Not really. A cars age has nothing to do with mileage, it's either low mileage or its not. Would you consider 200K low mileage on a 30 year old car for instance.
Unfortunately any 'cat' reference is a complete killer to the cars value, regardless of how minor the damage was/is.

I'll be keeping it for as long as I can so I'm happy
I bought it cheap IMO so I can sell it cheap should I need to. If I make it mint and keep it I doubt the value will get lower than 2k which suits me. Plus this is my 5th scooby so I know what I'm doing.

Ignore the experts on here, RB5s DO hold their value much more than the more standard models and given they are depleting in numbers may even appreciate in the future. The fact you may spend more than the car is wrth doing it up is up to you and let's face it it's not just about money is it? If you keep it reasonably standard it shouldn't cost you a fortune to do either.

Hi, I know you're a bit funny about mileage but this one is at a dealer less than a mile from me and is in lovely condition:

I just can't see these cars being worth three grand with circa 150K miles, limited edition or not.
Max is only asking that for this....

Or save a few more hundred quid and get this

A bit of a haggle and it'll probably come for closer to 2.5K anyway remember.
I agree with you but it's far from a bargain.
It will be interesting to see what this RB5 goes for:

ive got a terzo #282 that im in 2 minds wether to break or to sell. its got 200,000miles on the clock still running the original engine and gearbox. most reliable car ive ever had. ive had it for 6 years and a mate had it for 2 yrs before me.
its got more history that any car i have ever owned
it has sensible mods , apexi power fc,550cc injectors td05 turbo running 326bhp and has done for well over 50,000 miles mapped . mapped by zen performance
chassis mods , alk eibach arbs f+r , eibach pro street s coilovers , full superpro polybush kit
and loads more that ive not mentioned
my opinion is that its worth more in bits
