went to see my son who lives hundred miles away onway back had idiot wanting to race me gave it a little bit n he catchers up then i give it a shed full didnt see him again,anywa i was about 25miles from home no probs i get to the first roundabout in my town steam ever where wasnt certain it came from my car so i carefully drive another couple hundred metres when me gauge starts shooting towards red i tr n coast as much as possible as got m8 who lives just down the road,i get there gauge never reachers red but nearly all the coolant is now burnt over engine,well i put new rad on week ago i did shortern top hose & ive kept checking to make sure its not hitting,well with the heat i reckon it expanded n the fan was catching it,ive done quick repair but worried i done more damage to engine as heard gauge doesnt read with no water,what do you lot think am i worried other nothing?

 

I had the same at Brands Hatch, took a lot of water to refill the car! I had no problems but my gauge never got above 3/4.
