Default M reg sti

A girl I'm seeing and her dad just got an m reg sti for a track car.
Can anyone tell me anything about them? Are they good solid engines/gearbox?
Anything to watch out for? Any good bits or bad bits?
Cheers in advance

Well the M reg ones will be the original cars, these were taken off the wrx production line and converted by STI, they are ok, not as good as the later versions but they have dogbone forged pistons, the engines are not too bad but its like any classic engine, they cannot take high power without alot being spent on them (this includes the gearbox/clutch/brakes etc).
Car will come with (from the factory) 250ps, 10ps more than the wrx of that time.
Bad bits will be the fact its an 18 year old car, it needs to be well maintained and issues like fuel surge on track could well be a problem (ks3 or the likes needs to be fitted) and the older oil pumps are not that reliable.
May need some upgrading (brakes especially will need looking at) to be a good track car.

Tony

Using a car on the track really puts it under alot of strain. I'd be a little worried about putting such an old car through that much strain if it's still on its original engine.

It's just a small private track and they got the car cheap so not much to loose if the engine fails

To be honest mate when you said 'M' reg I thought it would be a WRX and not an STI which is why I said stick some pics up.

I really like them in red, especially with dark wheels fitted.
