Default So Virgin calls me up...

And says for "only" £11 extra a month I can go on to some extra super fast broadband. Apparantly I need a new modem which usually costs £70 but I'll get this for free.

I smell BS.

I'm already on 10Mb, which is 2.5 times faster than the ADSL at work and half the ping time. And considering Bolt's promised speed upgrade in the near future, I figured thats a big nah!

I was then told monthly charges for all of my virgin services are going to rise (TV, Phone, 'net) which will end up costing me more than £11 a month extra. But this wouldn't happen if I agreed and went with the BB upgrade. I still called BS on this "offer".

Was I right to say no to this? I think so.

Depends what speed they offered. If it was an upgrade to 100Mb from 10Mb I'd have snapped their hand off.

Of course, you could wait for the next bumper cashback offer on Quidco, cancel your subscription and then take out a new one to get a discount that way

60MB IIRC. Meh, I wouldn't make any real use of it anyway. I'm already going up to 20Mb in July and I don't even max out the 10MB as I often find the bottleneck is at the other end these days.

Now, more upstream would be nice as that would help the VPN.

I'm on the 10 meg plan and it sucks. Living in a house with an xbox 360 running xbox live a ps3 on the playstation network a wife who is obsessed by cat videos on YouTube and me with my love of movie downloads I seem to get my speed capped every night. They drop my speed down to under 2 meg. If they ring me up with that offer I'm taking it no doubt about it

Even for £11 a month ON TOP of what you already pay? IMO £132 a year extra is not an offer. Bearing in mind that roughly is the same extra for the current 50Mb package. So ok you get an extra 10Mb for free....but i'll be getting that extra 10Mb for free anyway!

If it was three quid a month extra, like the Tivo (which is all I paid for...box was free and no install fee), I'd go for it

The Tivo, which inccidentally runs through a seperate IP connection anyway, So catch-up and streamed media doesn't affect my computer's BB speed or download/traffic management limits.

PS: that includes youtube content

10, 20 or 100 meg it dont matter if its not a consistant service. Virgin wrote to me telling me they doubling my speed. I couldn't give a **** as it working would be a better starting point!
