Bummer,

We really need to sort out a catalogue of stolen items.

Sorry to hear this, hope you get it back and the scum who knicked it burn slowly in hell!

Is it worth posting the VIN/engine numbers? or does this pose a problem?

All the best
Paul

Sorry to hear that Theo. I thought for a moment that you had lost your car, glad that you haven't. Let's hope that they catch the *******.

Thumbs down

Sorry about loss - also thought it was your car for a moment Theo!

I agree with Cem and your comments - there must be some kind of database that we could set up to at least try and trace some of the stuff that is being nicked. At least it would feel like we are trying to do something.

Thanks for the comments.

Cem, I really agree. One of the things the internet is good for is spreading info pretty fast.

Maybe it's time for a next "growing up" step, and we should figure out a way to set up a database with stolen cars / VIN numbers that can be looked up from all car related BBS's. Hell of a thing to organise, and has to be kept up to date be be of real use...

Paul, I don't have his VIN number, but I will ask - it is probably the best way of identifying a car. OTOH (I'm getting paranoid), even posting that info can probably be misused for forgery on other cars ?

WEB MASTER

Many folk have expressed their thoughts about a "STOLEN DATABASE". Could you let us know if you have plans for one and how it would work. Also what help/support you would like.Sure it might be difficult to set up.But look at how it could help us all

Cheers
Luke

I hope he gets it back Theo.

As for the database, Theo is right to be concerned since It could make vin numbers available to *******. Not sure how to get around this but is would need to be secure and use encryption. Also need to consider cost of hosting and upkeep and verification that the requestor of information is validated.

Not trying to put you off cos Its a great idea, just needs to be thought about thats all.

Glad to help with this if any needed.

Perhaps a Database where someone could enter a Chassis or Engine Number, then will return with either a 'Stolen' or 'Not Stolen' result. At least this would prevent ******* from obtaining these numbers!

Also there could be a database of VRM's, working on this same principle.

As for the expense of running this service, it could be made chargable (for a small fee) to do a search (a bit like HPI)

Just an idea...

Hello,

YES ROLL ON THE STOLEN DB!

I think that one the a car is nicked you have nothing to loose from posting the VIN, Number plate, specs etc etc?

Or am I wrong?

I know have been playing with a few free web things recently that could do it and would be independant of any host so liabillity would not be much of an issues (or am I wrong again...??)
