On behalf of a friend...
Looking at a standard UK MY95/6 +
Superchip
Aftermarket Exhaust (big hole
)
Anti-Lag device...
What BHP might it be looking at??? & I'm not talking B/S-BHP
Also what else might he expect from a Superchip'd car in terms of reliability/life expectancy or any other knowledge appreciated.
Thanks

(Don't seem to be anything @ dyno.scoobynet )

Right, had a few pints but ill have a go.
You will have 208 bhp as standard, a superchip gives a claimed 40 bhp and a full exhaust system including downpipe probably gives 20 - 30 bhp, bearing in mind you may have a larger turbo model. Run it on SUL and do the reset - adds to around 270+.
Not sure about anti lag but ive looked at this and it seems dodgey. Also my local motorsport company sells superchips and advises me not to get one, he wouldn't if it was his car. Having said that, resarch on this site shows many happy owners, but fit a boost gauge.
BHP tests are always dubious but its going to be quicker than standard, I went out in Top Cats with the Superchip (along with many other mods) and it was fu**ing quick.
Just my thoughts, dont want any abuse or arguments from this.

Puff,
Then compare Pats figures from the same RR day. He was only running 1bar of boost, compared to 1.5bar (I think, from your posts Pete ?) the Superchip was running.
ALS won't show any more BHP, but low down torque will be higher, though because of the way it works, it's doubtful this would show on the RR. However, expect to eat turbos, exhaust valves, and probably melt the occasional exhaust if you use it too much.
Reliability seems to depend on who sets it up, and how much boost you try to run. There's no fuel, or ignition adjustment, and most companies rely on a bleed valve for boost control.
Personally, I'd suggest going for a good EVC, and staying within the safety parameters of the standard ECU, unless, I could hold out for a decent remappable ecu.

Yeah R19KET,
I agree with u, bear in mind though how many engines Pats gone through b4 gettin his map right
Yip u r correct 22PSI an i`ve been @ that for well over a year, dunno if I mentioned it b4 but re fueling i fitted an HKS AFR so no probs on that front either. 1nc set with a gas anylizer. Like we`ve both said though it depends who sets it up.

The 'superchip' for the Impreza isn't really a 'superchip' (quote from s/chip dealer). It merely tricks the car/ECU into thinking it is running less boost than it is, and thus causes boost to increase! Effective, but a number of s/chip dealers would recommend a full exhaust/induction kit set up as a safer alternative!

Pete,
Can't (won't) comment on Pats mapping, or home made gizmo's...hehehe, but the point I was making, is that TOO much emphasis put on boost, and not enough on fuelling, ignition, and boost profiling.
The HKS AFR is fine for adjusting WOT, but it can only either lift, or lower the whole map, so what about the rest of it ???.
Plus you'd be amazed at the power increases from raising the ignition.
A well mapped STI/WRX will easily make 300bhp (depending on the RR :rolleyes
, running a lot less boost, but at a price.
Then again, I believe the Superchip is circa £450, + £75 'ish for an AFR, and even a Unichip isn't much more.
If money is really an issue, then an HKS FCD, and bleed valve, £100 all in, will do exactly the same job as the Superchip, and you'll have £400 to put towards rebuilding the engine

Could do a all nighter on this but hey whats the point
Puff asked 4 the info an he got it. Wot i`d like 2 know though is how many peebs have an opinion AND personal experience of Superchips. I do
an I can tell those without that I`ve had it 4 ages with no probs. How may times have u been told summin won`t work only 2 find it does?
Because they wanted 2 sucker u inta buying a more expensive product... I looked @ a motec but at the time these were not freely available and were a lot more expensive than they are now. So I went for the ONLY option available at the time, an have had no regrets.
Oh an BTW I did my 12.8sec 1/4 after the Schip was fitted

Pete,
I'm fully aware that there are many happy Scooby owners, with a Superchip. We both agree that correctly set up, and then left alone, there shouldn't be any problems.
We both know this isn't always the case.
If I ever comment on a particular product, and it's performance, I'm always very careful to point out that the results are based on "my car/setup", or of another car I know well. I also accept the possibility that the same results, may not always be replicated on an another car, however similar.
"Personal experience" of a Superchip ?, no, never even seen one, but we're talking about the effects of increasing the boost on an engine, and my "personal experience" of a Superchip, or lack of, won't change the results one iota, if it's not done right.
Your 1/4 time is great, far better than I've been able to do, but like I say to Harj, I prefer the corners
(not too good at those either
