Default Going from an Alloy Bonnet to a steel one

Since my bonnet scoop was stoeln and my bonnet sustained damge, i have been looking for a pre-facelift alloy bonnet in white, quite a hard task, anyhoo, there have been a few, 1 didnt sell for £5 !!! but it was too far from me to make it viable, so after letting a few go, either facelift ones or distance too far, a steel one has popped up only 10 miles away from me, yay, but, its steel !

will fitting a steel one cause any issues, to the hinges etc or i guess they are all the same ?

also, its carbon wrapped so not all bad LOL

cheers

Should fit ok just will be heavy compared to alloy, if cheap buy it then look out for alloy one can easily swap it and then sell the steel one on, better than not having one at all

Hi, if you're local to the Kent area I've got a pre face-lift alloy white bonnet you might be interested in looking at. It's not mint condition due to few stone chips on the front and the offside vent being broken but does have the slanty type under tray with ic water spray jets.

I know these don't fetch a lot any more, so not after stupid money. It's been in my garage for about 2 years gathering dust.

I do have pics of the stone chips if you're interested, to save a wasted journey.

Thanks.

My old car weighed 9kg less with a facelift ally bonnet (corner weighted). It was a straight swap

I had a grey pre-facelift bonnet for sale on here which I skipped in the end through lack of interest

Which models were the alloy bonnets fitted to? I'm guessing the Type RA?

Yeah, I remember my old 93 WRX saloon (not an RA) having a light bonnet.

BTW, if you want to feel a heavy bonnet, then try lifting an Integrale Evo's! My old one was ridiculous! Weird really as, as you all know, it was a homologation car for rallying! So why on earth they didn't remake the bonnet in alloy for the Evo >=5000-off production run, god only knows. There would have been a SIGNIFICANT weight saving/lower CoG if they had.

Out of interest, does the regular STi 5 (not a Type RA or R) have an alloy one? It feels neither excessively light, nor excessively heavy, so I'm unsure(?)

You'd know fella as ally bonnet can be lifted with one finger, steel needs both hands!

reason im umming n rrrring etc is i dont like going from stock to an unfearier part, but its either that for the time being or put up with my current standard **** eyed scoop due to the wonky scoop hole where they yanked the old one off

i have bonnet lifters also, luckily 2 so they shoulld cope o.k still

Is there nothing in the bonnet's alloys that's magnetic then?! (Talking about the light alloy bonnet obviously).

if you are trying to find out if your bonnet is aluminium then put a magnet close to it and if its made out aluminium then it wont stick

Oh "ally" not alloy!

I thought it was alloy i.e. a mix of 2 or more metals (being lighter than steel).

But it's purely "ally" (aluminium). Got it. I'll try the test soon...

An Alloy bonnet is all alloy no steal or anything else in it. Use a fridge magnet os some thing like that to see if its alloy or steel.

If you do get a steel bonnet it will be a stright swap as long as its like for like.
