Default Subaru code on CEL

I had a check engine light come on the other day, first time ever and although this is on a impreza sport, I assume the codes are the same. Did the diagnostic black cables together and read the code. Hopefully right !!

One long dash followed by two short ones gives me Error code 12
Which is Starter signal circuit

Then second code is three long flashes followed by 2 short flashes
I guess that is error code 32 which means A/F Sensor #1 System

Now the question is, what the hell do they mean and how serious is it. Car runs fine and the CEL light only came on when the car was doing 60MPH
Light does not come on at lower speeds

Would think starter signal code was historic like previous low battery or jump start or something and not current.

And 32 is lambda fooked need replaced i would say.

I guessed that one of the codes was old but thanks for pointing out the second one may be the lambda sensor, will see if I can get that sorted

Do you still have the lambda from your old one? It may be the same part. FFS don't try and change it though, just bring it over and I'll save both of us the misery

Bit like a spark plug with 3 wires coming out of it with a plug on the end

I can see it going into headers attached to a white plug. Do some people call that the 02 sensor ? I dont have a spare because my old one went with the downpipe so can I clean it up and reset the cel and see if that works ?

No you can't clean them up, they just tend to die. Time to find another but they aren't expensive. Send pete@s/e imprezas a pm, he'll have one and he's over this way seeing Rich this week.
