Hello guys turns out my 94 WRX has had a Helix clutch fitted back in 2002, I've just changed the engine and put everything together as normal with the old clutch in and I've got no drive. Its like the clutch is down all the time so I'm wondering is this clutch one use? it cost nearly £500 back in 2002 and I think it is the same as this one: http://www.grahamgoode.com/subaru/pa...0&item=GGS2229

Its only covered 6000 miles since new so was hoping to keep it but looks like I'm gona have to shell out for a new one and was thinking standard exeedy but am wondering now wether the Helix clutch was fitted for a reason??
Any suggestions would be appreciated

Double check everything fella, as it`s EASY to miss something.

Remember its a PULL clutch, not a push like a normal car.

And has cable and hydraulic operation.

 

Cheers mate I will double check everything before buying a new one as it would be a shame to throw away a very expensive clutch. I'm not gona lie to you I have never changed a clutch before but I was there when the old engine was removed and we had a load of trouble getting it out as it was stuck on the clutch bearing. I'm wondering if we could of damaged the bearing although its visually fine. The guy that has put the new engine in for me is a very close mate but he is primarily a panel beater and this is the first time he has pulled the engine out of a scooby. He asked one of his customers that has several scoobies for advice and they told him that clutches in them are usually not re-useable. Need a second opinion methinks!

 

Sounds like he hasn't connected the clutch fork or something. If the clutch was working when it was removed it should still be working.

 

***** mine is a Helix autosport clutch that came with my secondhand engine.

When the engine was removed did they undo the pin that holds the clutch fork in? As that will **** up things if they have pulled it out with that inplace, as the pin comes out you lift the fork up and thats the clutch off the gearbox (apart from the shaft). Once that is off its just wiggling the engine off the studs and shaft.

I only found this out by looking one here before I replaced my engine.

As others have said it sounds like the clutch fork hasn't been removed before the gearbox. You might get away with just a new release bearing but it's a box out job again I'm afraid. If your lucky they might just have not set the release bearing and clutch fork up properly before refitting the box

Sounds like a mechanical issue, check the clutch does not need bleeding and that the bearing has engaged

Ive had a look at the clutch myself now and showed the guy that fitted it this thread, we have come to the conclusion that the bearing has had it. Although we did remove the clutch fork it wasnt until we had a good go at ripping the engine out with it still connected so must of ruined the bearing then. Helix do sell a replacement bearing but there is only 2-3mm of friction material left max so is it really worth it?

 

Me i`d **** a new bearing in there and then replace the clutch when it finally goes, as I`m not a fan of replacing something that works, unless I`m seriously upgrading.

 

them helix clutchs are like the ap and they are the muts nuts of organic clutches
and are good for 450ft and the hp to go with it unlike all other organic ones
