Roll bearin/ball bearing turbos are louder than thrust bearing turbos.
Beware doing this on older VF or VF anyway,in this i mean running DVless or running without the OE Recirc.

I thought the 'chatter' was from the wastegate. When you ease off boost you hear it

I have just had my VF22 changed. This had the std panel filter and chatter was quite prominent. I have a VF35 with induction cone now and it quite a bit louder

I'm lovin' the sound btw

The sound you hear is the air passing back across the turbine blades, not the wastegate opening and closing.

Depends on turbo matey.

If its older VF this can be fragile and can be broken/damaged running without the DV or OE recirc valve.

On stock 2007 STi they're VF48 or VF43 which will be OK without the running DV/Recirc,but i think there is small problem, because these as OE will run TMIC and you must find adapter.

Running without the Recirc or DV will damage Turbo on longer run,but you will loose spool too,in my view run OE recirc or aftermarket Recirc as Forge etc.

You do but you retain boost pressure to some degree which makes a positive difference on gear change particularly when you're hammering through the gears having a proper session

Proper session yes(if you mean Track days).

But still think is no point on fairly standard STi run DVless,in my view is pointless and if he/she will drive fairly as normal user, don't think will be impressed

Yep tis on the trackcar, but even on the road it makes a difference worthy of mention. If you use your Scoob as a proper car day to day rather than a toy then yep I'd stick with the OEM Recirc

Also needs to be something that's combined with mapping to get the best out of it, as just whipping it out is as bad as putting on a VTA and everything will be all to **** Am running simtek so the DV/maf delete and FMIC suited at the time

Agreed on this

Some VTA will kill your MAF and have tendency overfuelling or can run rich, best is stick with OE Recirc or go for Aftermarket Recirc as is it Forge.

Hi guys, i've just fitted another VF35 on my MY00. I had one on there that ran sweet until it got oil starved when my bottom end went.

The one i've put on now chatters like mad in the taller gears under boost, whereas the original one didnt. The boost gauge twitches like mad too.

I'm running an induction kit and sti v3/4 recirc valve, FMIC and it was mapped previously with these mods.

Is this normal or is something wrong? Bought the turbo off someone on here but now theyre not replying to emails etc.

yup, nothings changed, just a turbo swap.

he guy who sold it to me says maybe the spring has gone in the actuator?? and will send me another from another turbo.

The BOV/Recirc is working fine so i'm sure its something turbo related as it does it under boost, not when letting off.
