Question

I am in the (very upsetting) position of selling my Subaru to raise some cash for an impending house purchase.

I need to replace it with something (reasonably) cheap to run and insure, with approx 4-5 grand to spend. I've thought about 306xsi, Golf GTI etc etc but just wanted some extra opinions?

In addition what is my 99 T reg, Uk, Blue, Air Conned, good nick, 21000 miles, Turbo worth?

Cheers

Thumbs up

MR2 without a shadow of a doubt. Get a post 94 model with the new spoiler and you get some real fun. 174bhp, 30mpg average, ultra reliable and cheap insurance - £600 ish FC. Also RWD for some serious fun.

You will not regret it - very underrated car

Cheers for the ideas keep them coming.

I used to have a J plate 205 gti and loved it to bits, it only had 40,000 on it but it was falling apart! Re-conditioned one might be worth a punt though....

As for the MR2, nice idea and one I hadn't thought of, however (I should have said) I need enough space in the car to put a mountain bike.

I understand from an article in EVO mag that for £5000 LAD motorsport find a suitable car themselves and then overhaul it, they may even have one in stock.

Mazda Eunos Roadster G or H plate about 4-5K. Fantastic roofless fun for the summer, I know 'cos we've got one and at the moment are using it more than the scoob!

The added bonus is that they very rarely go wrong

I have to agree with Sal, for the money the Eunos Roadster is great fun, I'm having as much fun in it than I did in my Scoob albeit at much lower speeds and G forces. You wont get much in the back though let alone a mountain bike.

Or maybe an early Legacy GT Twin Turbo.

Re- MR2... you can fit a mountain bike in an MR2! as long as it is the T-bar... remove the passenger t-bar panel... remove both wheels and seat off mountain bike.. open passengers door and lift bike frame at about 75degree through the t-bar hole and open door.. place on the seat.. put wheels on top and seat under frame on seat.. use the seat belt to hold in all down.. replace t-bar panel and away you go!!
Also you can carry a second.. turn it upside down and put handle bars on rear engine lid.. line up the seat with the rear spoiler and tie and pad where meets the car! not exactly practical but I suvived for 5years!
