Default Whining/ Rumbling noise

Would anyone be able to help me with this? I have a 2003 UK STi. When driving along under power/load the car is fine, upon lifting off the throttle there is a whining/rumble noise through the car. I cant be sure if this is toward the rear of the car or around the gearbox area. If the clutch is depressed then the noise stops and the car coasts fine. Like I say the car acelerates fine with no judder or strange noises. Also the car was recently serviced with all fluids changed and there were no metal build ups on the magnetic plugs. Thanks and I hope someone can shed some light on this.
