Red face

Thought this might put the cat amongst the pigeons - so-to-speak !
Analogy :-

Aircon robs your car of roughly 10bhp (when its on).....Do you notice the difference ?? er - no, I dont think so - only occassionally/slightly when its switching on/off......

Ok, then perhaps a performance backbox (scoobysport or prodrive for example). They are claimed to give you roughly 10bhp more.....so surely - you aint going to notice it ??????????? and what hurts more is the £300 or so that you spend is surely just for an expensive amplifier for the exhaust and/or the trendy aspect of a single pipe???

Thats the way I think about it......your thoughts ?????

The aircon automatically shuts down when you floor the accelerator so in fact there is not a 10 bhp power drop on full acceleration. There may however be a slight drop in power on part throttle. As you say though, I doubt whether this is noticeable.

I fitted a "peformance backbox" purely for the enhanced soundtrack.

The looks were also appealing.

I don't really want aircon, but isn't it down to personal choice?

The scooby is an excellent performance car for the money.
Why not fit aircon AND a back box?

Cool

Or, if you really want to cover all possible situations, you can have a car like mine with ...

Air-con, SS backbox and sunroof

Don't ask me, it was already like that when I bought it

I would never again have a car without aircon, as soon as temperatures get to c20 degrees, aircon is a must

With regards power loss due to aircon - I read an article that looked into this, they discovered a 3% power loss due to aircon (c6hp on std scoob) BUT that this was due the increased friction of the Aircon 'pump' sapping power REGARDLESS of whether the aircon is on or off! They saw absolutely no difference in power when the aircon was switched on! Any difference you feel is in your mind!!

Wink

It's not so much the (presumably) small power increase that a BB brings to the party - it's the increased speed the the Turbo spins up and the improved low end tourque and general increased urgency = better drivability...

Exclamation

Weather reports say that we are going to have a VERY hot summer this year!!

Air con everytime!!!

I use to do a lot of driving between Surrey and Potters Bar. Getting stuck on the M25 on a friday afternoon when it's 25-30 celius outside, without air con road rage would be on the cards!!!
