Default Performance Friction discs and Z compound pads

Has anyone had issues with this combination of disc and pad?

As I have an issue with my brakes.....The story is:

Had them changed to pf discs and z compound pads, braided lines and fluid.

The brakes were sharp, but every now and then the pedal would go soft.

So had the master cylinder changed. That fixed the going soft, but the brakes lost that "bite" they had.

I have now had the calipers refurbished and they have not improved.

Have you tried going out and getting some heat into them?

I would do the heat cycling again as per bedding in instructions. Ideally take the pads out first and rough them up to remove glaze first.

Do a series of high speed stops , down from 80-100 where conditions allow down to 20 , and keep driving to cool them off , don't stop still after the stop , do this 5 or 6 times and see what they are like then.

I have never been a fan of those pads , I found them wooden in my M3 so took them out , I thought they were poor.

Cheers Ian

Thanks Ian. A little difficult to do that, but will try and find space to do over the weekend and report back.

Definately need some more heat... and I also found them a little wooden too !

AP six pots now on mine are so "bitey" it's astonishing how fast it loses speed in anger now.

Thanks Duncan. But not willing to go that far..... Not yet anyway. When these were sharp, they were good. Will try beddin and a new set of pads if that does not work.

I rate the NDX bluestuffs better than any performance pad on the market today , these will transform your braking

See how you get on with the instructions I've sent you. That should sort the problem out, if not give me a shout and we can look at the superior EBC Bluestuff NDX.

i would suspect a bedding issue as the z-rated should give reasonable bite cold but get better with heat, potentially they have been slightly glazed by not working them hard enough when fresh??
at 2/3rds of the price of NDX they tend to be very good value and should perform at least as well (if not better) in our experience

I use this combination.
They definitely work better warm which I guess means working them.
If you go to a track you will find out.
First thing off, I find them a bit - I'm not sure if wooden is the right word.
I normally left foot brake (lightly) for 100m or so in 2nd gear, just to get a bit of temp in them - not sure if this is recommended, but it works for me.
To bed them in I just did about six stops from 80 mph down to say 20 using a reasonable amount of force ie not with someone behind.
I have no problem with the setup, but may be tempted by the bluestuff next time round.

Was wondering about that left foot braking idea that should get some temp into them

This is what I found when I researched them (everyone loved the combo) now I have issues - typical

I'm going to blame the missus because she drives it more than me

Problems seem to arise with PF pads when they are not used hard enough.
