Cool

My local Shell garage is just about to stock Optimax down here in Plymouth. My car is a MY99 WRX STI Type-R. I am sure I have read somewhere on Scoobynet that a MY99 ECU will recalibrate itself to a new type of fuel within 30 miles without having to do a ECU reset. Can anybody confirm wheather this is true or not?

Cheers,

Craig.

I know that UK MY99's do, so I assume that yours will be the same.

I may take up to a couple of tanks, but yes.

I was under the impression that all scooby ecu's learn on an ongoing basis and make ignition timing adgjustments accordingly !

my 93WRX certainly feels as if it learns after I change octane ...

It will learn but very slowly. An ECU reset is the quick route to advance for the older ECUs. The newer ECU's can take a couple of tanks and the MY01> learn on the fly (straight away).

Phew ! I thought DaveW was implying that not all did....and so I thought I was going bonkers because I'm sure I've felt the differences of the three octanes available !

Nice one !

Alex,

Sorry for that mate, didn't mean to worry you. With the earlier models it is definately better to do a ECU reset to remove any history of bad fuel. I even do it on my MY99 which learn a lot faster than the older ECUs.
