I have a Magnex back box on order and would also like to relace the middle section. Does anybody know if my UK MY97 needs both cats to pass it's emissions test?

If you leave the downpipe cat it will definitely pass an MOT. With the downpipe cat removed and the centre cat in place it should pass if they test it when the cat is very hot. Obviously with no cats it will fail.

hi. you only have one cat on any car that the first one from the engine. the others are silencers you can remove thoses and it will still pass but if you remove the cat it will fail.

MY00's and some MY's prior have TWO cats.

MY01's > have three cats.

STi7's have two cats.

 

thats new to me most cars have one cat and the other boxes are silencers

 

UK MY98 definitely has two cats. One in the downpipe and one in the centre.

Afraid not. I have decatted two MY00's, two MY01 WRX's and two STi7's and the cat number is as I posted above.

I think very early cars had only one cat on but as the Euro emissions regs have got tighter they have had extra cats added over the years.

 

my my97 had two cats, passed the mot with only the downpipe cat left in place
