looking to change the cam belt on my 93 wrx , how much of a job is it and what pulleys and idlers need to come of , changed a few fords b4 but not on a subaru.

Its not really that hard.

Firstly you need to remove the, ALT/PAS Pump belt and also Air-Con belt if it is fitted. Remove the front pulley. Then remove the front cam belt covers, 3 bolts on each end cover and i think there are 8 on the centre cover. Then you need to put the engine in the safe position (Woodruff key vertical) You can then slacken the belt tensioner. You can then remove the lower idler pulley on the left hand side. The belt will then come off. You then need to remove the idler pulley to the right of the crank pulley, so that you can remove the hydraulic tensioner and re-comppress it in a vice, keeping it compressed with a small drill bit or something). You can then refit the tensioner and top idler pulley. Then fit the belt making sure that you line up all the timing marks, 1 on crank pulley and 1 on each of the cam pulleys, then fitting the bottom idler. You can then tighten the tensioner and pull the drill bit out. Complete the job by re-fitting the covers and belts.

Torque setting are: Hydraulic tensioner 18lb ft
Idler Pulleys 35lb ft
Front pulley 80lb ft

I am quite certain this is correct for your spec of car.
